No juraras

Mt 5, 33-37

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Han oído ustedes que se dijo a los antiguos: No jurarás en falso y le cumplirás al Señor lo que le hayas prometido con juramento. Pero yo les digo: No juren de ninguna manera, ni por el cielo, que es el trono de Dios; ni por la tierra, porque es donde él pone los pies; ni por Jerusalén, que es la ciudad del gran Rey.

Tampoco jures por tu cabeza, porque no puedes hacer blanco o negro uno solo de tus cabellos. Digan simplemente sí, cuando es sí; y no, cuando es no. Lo que se diga de más, viene del maligno’’.

“You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
But I say to you, do not swear at all;
not by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;
nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’
Anything more is from the Evil One.”

Meditacion:

En el evangelio de hoy se habla de la sinceridad a partir del valor y del uso del juramento. Aclaremos antes una cosa: Jurar, en sí mismo, no es un error. Hasta el mismo derecho canónico prescribe el juramento. Jurar ante Dios puede constituir incluso una expresión de fe en Quien está en todas partes, lo ve todo e interviene a favor de los justos.

Pero, lamentablemente se da el fenómeno de la mentira. Por ser tan universal, origina la triste experiencia de que nadie se fíe de quienes hablan sin testigos. Por eso, los tribunales de justicia exigen siempre testigos; y, según los judíos, debían ser al menos dos.

Hoy además son frecuentes las noticias conocidas como fake news, falsas informaciones que son emitidas a través de portales, prensa escrita, radio, televisión y redes sociales. Se difunden con la intención deliberada de engañar, inducir a error, manipular, desprestigiar o enaltecer a una institución, entidad o persona, obtener ganancias económicas o rédito político… 

Ante tal fenómeno, hoy tan extendido, el juramento es la prueba de la existencia de la mentira. Si ésta no existiera, no habría necesidad alguna de acudir al juramento y el “sí” seria “sí” y el “no” sería “no”.

Sabiendo esto, Jesús avisa sobre el abuso del juramento. Con sus advertencias, aboga en la línea de que las relaciones humanas queden marcadas por la confianza recíproca. Basta con ser claros y sinceros. La sinceridad es comparable con la transparencia. Un cristal es transparente cuando está limpio. Una persona es transparente cuando es pura y no tiene segundas intenciones. Ser así requiere valor. Los psicólogos dicen que la mayor parte de las mentiras estás dictadas por el miedo. Si persiste el miedo, la mentira puede degenerar en una mala costumbre, un modo de esconderse. Jesús, por el contrario, promueve la luz, la claridad, la transparencia.

In today's Gospel, sincerity is spoken of based on the value and use of the oath. Let us clarify one thing before: Swearing, in itself, is not a mistake. Even the canon law itself prescribes the oath. Swearing before God can even constitute an expression of faith in the One who is everywhere, sees everything and intervenes on behalf of the righteous.

But unfortunately there is the phenomenon of lying. Because it is so universal, it creates the sad experience that no one trusts those who speak without witnesses. For this reason, the courts of law always require witnesses; and, according to the Jews, there must be at least two.

Today, the news known as fake news is also frequent, false information that is broadcast through portals, the written press, radio, television and social networks. They are disseminated with the deliberate intention of deceiving, misleading, manipulating, discrediting or elevating an institution, entity or person, obtaining economic gains or political revenue ...

In the face of such a phenomenon, so widespread today, the oath is proof of the existence of lies. If it did not exist, there would be no need to go to the oath and the "yes" would be "yes" and the "no" would be "no".

Knowing this, Jesus warns about the abuse of the oath. With his warnings, he advocates that human relationships be marked by mutual trust. It is enough to be clear and sincere. Sincerity is comparable to transparency. A crystal is transparent when it is clean. A person is transparent when he is pure and has no ulterior motives. Being like this requires courage. Psychologists say that most lies are dictated by fear. If fear persists, lying can degenerate into a bad habit, a way to hide. Jesus, on the contrary, promotes light, clarity, transparency.
