Mt 8, 28-34
En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús desembarcó en la otra orilla del lago, en tierra de los gadarenos, dos endemoniados salieron de entre los sepulcros y fueron a su encuentro. Eran tan feroces, que nadie se atrevía a pasar por aquel camino. Los endemoniados le gritaron a Jesús: “¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Hijo de Dios? ¿Acaso has venido hasta aquí para atormentarnos antes del tiempo señalado?”
No lejos de ahí había una numerosa piara de cerdos que estaban comiendo. Los demonios le suplicaron a Jesús: “Si vienes a echarnos fuera, mándanos entrar en esos cerdos”. El les respondió: “Está bien”.
Entonces los demonios salieron de los hombres, se metieron en los cerdos y toda la piara se precipitó en el lago por un despeñadero y los cerdos se ahogaron.
Los que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron hacia la ciudad a dar parte de todos aquellos acontecimientos y de lo sucedido a los endemoniados. Entonces salió toda la gente de la ciudad al encuentro de Jesús, y al verlo, le suplicaron que se fuera de su territorio.

When Jesus came to the territory of the Gadarenes,
two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him.
They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.
They cried out, “What have you to do with us, Son of God?
Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?”
Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.
The demons pleaded with him,
“If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine.”
And he said to them, “Go then!”
They came out and entered the swine,
and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea
where they drowned.
The swineherds ran away,
and when they came to the town they reported everything,
including what had happened to the demoniacs.
Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus,
and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.

Meditacion:
Cuando lei el evangelio de hoy, no pude mas que sonreir.
Endemoniados gritando, cerdos poseídos, porqueros asustados corriendo y un pueblo aterrorizado: este debe ser el relato más colorido de todo el Evangelio según San Mateo. Pero, ¿sabías que esta fue la primera vez que gentiles contaron la buena nueva sobre Jesús? Pensemos cómo habrá sido el relato de los porqueros en la plaza del pueblo sobre lo sucedido al encontrarse con el Señor:
“¡Jamás creerán lo que acaba de suceder! Nosotros estábamos alejando a los cerdos de las tumbas porque sabíamos que por ahí había dos endemoniados. De pronto aparecieron unos hombres hablando en arameo y los endemoniados los atacaron, gritando algo de que estaban atormentados. Pero los hombres no huyeron, más bien el que estaba al frente de ellos empezó a hacer gestos apuntando hacia los cerdos. Inmediatamente toda la piara corrió al precipicio y se lanzaron al mar. ¡Todos se ahogaron! Estábamos aterrorizados. ¿Cómo fue que este desconocido hizo tal cosa?
“Inmediatamente después, vimos a los endemoniados, pero ya no eran violentos. Parecían más bien pacíficos y calmados, incluso felices, y todo fue por lo que hizo el extranjero. ¡Por eso vinimos a contárselo a todos! ¿Quién podrá ser este hombre?”
A veces la evangelización consiste simplemente en compartir lo que te ha sucedido personalmente, lo que has observado o experimentado. Estos porqueros son un ejemplo de cómo se comparte la buena noticia, aunque para cada uno será diferente, porque cada historia es distinta.
No hay que olvidar que los lugareños no estaban nada contentos con lo ocurrido. Más bien, corrieron hacia el Señor Jesús suplicándole que se fuera. O sea, reaccionaron con temor, no con fe. La enseñanza de este relato es que no podemos controlar la reacción del público.
Es muy probable que cuando tú intentes compartir la fe no tengas la respuesta que esperabas; pero no te preocupes. Todo lo que Dios te pide es que compartas lo que has visto y oído. El Espíritu Santo es el que se encargará de inspirar la respuesta de tus oyentes.
Cada uno de nosotros tiene una historia; cualquiera que sea la tuya, ¡compártela!
“Señor Jesús, concédeme la oportunidad de contarles a otros lo que he experimentado.” Amen

When I read today's Gospel, I couldn't help but smile.
Demons screaming, possessed pigs, scared pigs running and a terrified people: this must be the most colorful account of the entire Gospel according to Saint Matthew. But did you know that this was the first time that Gentiles told the good news about Jesus? Let's think about what the story of the swineherds in the town square will have been about what happened when they met the Lord:
"You will never believe what just happened! We were driving the pigs from the graves because we knew that there were two demoniacs out there. Suddenly men appeared speaking in Aramaic and the demoniacs attacked them, shouting something that they were tormented. But the men did not run away, rather the one in front of them started gesturing towards the pigs. Immediately the whole herd ran off the cliff and they jumped into the sea. They all drowned! We were terrified. How did this stranger do such a thing?
“Immediately afterwards, we saw the possessed, but they were no longer violent. They seemed rather peaceful and calm, even happy, and it was all because of what the stranger did. That's why we came to tell everyone! Who could this man be? ”
Sometimes evangelization is simply about sharing what has happened to you personally, what you have observed or experienced. These pigs are an example of how the good news is shared, although for everyone it will be different, because each story is different.
It should not be forgotten that the locals were not at all happy with what happened. Rather, they ran to the Lord Jesus pleading with him to leave. In other words, they reacted with fear, not with faith. The teaching of this story is that we cannot control the reaction of the public.
It is very likely that when you try to share the faith you do not have the answer you expected; but do not worry. All God asks is that you share what you have seen and heard. The Holy Spirit is the one that will be responsible for inspiring the response of your listeners.
Each of us has a story; whatever yours, share it!
"Lord Jesus, grant me the opportunity to tell others what I have experienced." Amen
