El cumple de Maria

 Mt 1, 18-23

Cristo vino al mundo de la siguiente manera: Estando María, su madre, desposada con José, y antes de que vivieran juntos, sucedió que ella, por obra del Espíritu Santo, estaba esperando un hijo. José, su esposo, que era hombre justo, no queriendo ponerla en evidencia, pensó dejarla en secreto.

Mientras pensaba en estas cosas, un ángel del Señor le dijo en sueños: “José, hijo de David, no dudes en recibir en tu casa a María, tu esposa, porque ella ha concebido por obra del Espíritu Santo. Dará a luz un hijo y tú le pondrás el nombre de Jesús, porque él salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados”.

Todo esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que había dicho el Señor por boca del profeta Isaías: He aquí que la virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, a quien pondrán el nombre de Emmanuel, que quiere decir Dios-con-nosotros.

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,
but before they lived together,
she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,
yet unwilling to expose her to shame,
decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Joseph, son of David,
do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.
For it is through the Holy Spirit
that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had said through the prophet:

Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,

which means “God is with us.”

Meditacion:

La “Sagrada Familia” es el modelo que todos queremos imitar en nuestros hogares: “¿Qué harían Jesús, María y José en este caso…?” nos deberíamos preguntar al tomar una decisión importante. Hoy, al celebrar la Natividad de la Santísima Virgen, veamos por qué su familia es tan especial.

María era descendiente de David y nació y creció en un devoto hogar judío. Dios la preparó para ser la madre de su Hijo librándola del pecado original. Pero su renombre no se debe a estas credenciales, sino a que dijo “sí”, y al hacerlo acogió al Hijo de Dios en su santo seno, le dio un hogar en este mundo y lo nutrió tanto física como espiritualmente. Esta es la razón por la cual todas las generaciones la llaman dichosa, y por la que la celebramos hoy.

San José era un hombre justo que estaba comprometido para casarse con una joven extraordinaria. Un ángel le habló en sueños, pero eso no es lo que lo hace singular, sino el hecho de que aceptó a María y a su hijo en su vida. A pesar de los rumores que rodearon el embarazo de su prometida, José formó con ella una familia y juntos recibieron a Jesús en su hogar. José permitió que el Niño redefiniera toda su vida y esa es la razón por la cual lo honramos como patrón de la Iglesia universal y de la “iglesia doméstica”, que es la familia.

La Sagrada Familia continúa guiando el camino para nosotros. María y José pueden ser el modelo de nuestra vida si invitamos al Señor a los hogares y las familias más plenamente; y al hacerlo, también lo estamos invitando a entrar en el mundo. Nosotros no somos los que forjamos nuestra propia vida, es su presencia la cual transforma la vida de cada uno. Lo que comenzó con María y José sigue siendo verdad: “Dios [está] con nosotros” (Mateo 1, 23).

Jesucristo promete que todo el que lo invite a su hogar recibirá, a su vez, una invitación de su parte para ir a morar en su hogar eterno. Él quiere estar con nosotros más allá de esta vida, y por eso nos invita, como lo hizo con María y José, a ser parte de su plan eterno. Es más, nos invita a pertenecer a su propia familia santa, ¿quién podría rechazar semejante invitación?

“Señor Jesús, gracias por invitarme a unirme a María y a José como miembro de tu familia.”

The "Holy Family" is the model that we all want to imitate in our homes: "What would Jesus, Mary and Joseph do in this case ...?" we should ask ourselves when making an important decision. Today, as we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, let's see why your family is so special.

Mary was a descendant of David and was born and raised in a devoted Jewish home. God prepared her to be the mother of his Son by freeing her from original sin. But her renown is not due to these credentials, but because she said “yes,” and in doing so she welcomed the Son of God into her holy bosom, gave him a home in this world, and nurtured him both physically and spiritually. This is the reason why all generations call it blissful, and why we celebrate it today.

Saint Joseph was a just man who was engaged to marry an extraordinary young woman. An angel spoke to him in his dreams, but that is not what makes him unique, but the fact that he accepted Mary and her son into his life. Despite the rumors surrounding his fiancée's pregnancy, Joseph formed a family with her and together they welcomed Jesus into their home. Joseph allowed the Child to redefine his entire life and that is the reason why we honor him as the patron of the universal Church and of the “domestic church”, which is the family.

The Sagrada Familia continues to guide the way for us. Mary and Joseph can be the model of our lives if we invite the Lord into homes and families more fully; and in doing so, we are also inviting it into the world. We are not the ones who forge our own life, it is his presence which transforms the life of each one. What began with Mary and Joseph is still true: “God [is] with us” (Matthew 1:23).

Jesus Christ promises that everyone who invites him into his home will, in turn, receive an invitation from him to come and dwell in his eternal home. He wants to be with us beyond this life, and that is why he invites us, as he did with Mary and Joseph, to be part of his eternal plan. Furthermore, he invites us to belong to his own holy family, who could refuse such an invitation?

"Lord Jesus, thank you for inviting me to join Mary and Joseph as a member of your family." Amen
