Lc 9, 46-50

Un día, surgió entre los discípulos una discusión sobre quién era el más grande de ellos. Dándose cuenta Jesús de lo que estaban discutiendo, tomó a un niño, lo puso junto a sí y les dijo: “El que reciba a este niño en mi nombre, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe también al que me ha enviado. En realidad el más pequeño entre todos ustedes, ése es el más grande”.

Entonces, Juan le dijo: “Maestro, vimos a uno que estaba expulsando a los demonios en tu nombre; pero se lo prohibimos, porque no anda con nosotros”. Pero Jesús respondió: “No se lo prohiban, pues el que no está contra ustedes, está en favor de ustedes”.

An argument arose among the disciples
about which of them was the greatest. 
Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child
and placed it by his side and said to them,
“Whoever receives this child in my name receives me,
and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
For the one who is least among all of you
is the one who is the greatest.”Then John said in reply, 
“Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name 
and we tried to prevent him
 because he does not follow in our company.”
Jesus said to him, 
“Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”

Meditacion:

Los amigos íntimos son aquellos que han pasado tanto tiempo juntos que se conocen perfectamente. Pero a veces, incluso los buenos amigos pueden equivocarse uno respecto del otro. Solo Dios conoce las intenciones más profundas del corazón.

En el Evangelio de hoy, vemos que los amigos más cercanos del Señor tenían dificultades para entenderlo. Ya lo habían visto dar de comer a cinco mil personas y sanar a un muchacho poseído por un demonio; Pedro, Santiago y Juan lo habían visto transfigurarse en gloria; pero cada vez que él hablaba sobre su muerte inminente, ellos no entendían. No podían comprender la naturaleza sacrificial de su amor. Lo irónico es que, al final, se vieron enfrascados en una discusión sobre cuál de ellos era el más importante.

Pero el Señor, que los conocía mejor que un amigo íntimo, sabía lo que estaban pensando, y conocía bien el orgullo y la rivalidad que había entre ellos mucho antes de este pequeño incidente. Así que, pacientemente, dejó claras sus prioridades; tomando a un niño les dijo: “El más pequeño entre todos ustedes, ese es el más grande” (Lucas 9, 48).

Cristo nunca se cansaba de las preguntas de sus discípulos y sabía que la fe de ellos era débil, pero continuó enseñándoles diariamente, hasta aquella fatídica tarde del viernes cuando, crucificado, les reveló la insondable magnitud de su amor.

El Señor está consciente también de las intenciones de tu corazón, pues habita en él y te conoce mejor de lo que tú mismo te conoces; él ve todos tus pensamientos y emociones, sabe cuáles son las palabras que dirás, antes de que tú las pronuncies. También ve el bien que hay dentro de ti y conoce tus reacciones más imperfectas y, de la misma forma en que ayudó a sus discípulos, te ayudará a ti.

Al hablarle al Señor hoy en tu oración, deja que él escudriñe tu corazón; deja que su luz revele la misericordia y la generosidad que ya hay ahí. Permite que pacientemente descubra cualquier temor y resentimiento que te tenga atado y te enseñe a demostrar su mismo amor, que tiene el poder de renovar tu mente y tu corazón, para que pienses como él piensa y ames como él ama.

Nunca dudes de que el Señor Jesús es el mejor amigo que puedas tener.

“Señor, ayúdame a parecerme más a ti.”

Close friends are those who have spent so much time together that they know each other perfectly. But sometimes even good friends can be wrong about each other. Only God knows the deepest intentions of the heart.

In today's Gospel, we see that the Lord's closest friends had a hard time understanding Him. They had already seen him feed five thousand people and heal a demon-possessed boy; Peter, James, and John had seen him transfigured into glory; but every time he talked about his impending death, they didn't understand. They couldn't understand the sacrificial nature of their love. The irony is that, in the end, they found themselves embroiled in an argument over which of them was the most important.

But the Lord, who knew them better than a close friend, knew what they were thinking, and was well aware of the pride and rivalry that existed between them long before this little incident. So, patiently, he made his priorities clear; Taking a child, he told them: "The least among all of you, that is the greatest" (Luke 9:48).

Christ never tired of the questions of his disciples and knew that their faith was weak, but he continued to teach them daily, until that fateful Friday afternoon when, crucified, he revealed to them the unfathomable magnitude of his love.

The Lord is also aware of the intentions of your heart, because he lives in it and knows you better than you know yourself; He sees all your thoughts and emotions, knows what words you will say, before you speak them. He also sees the good that is within you and knows your most imperfect reactions and, in the same way that he helped his disciples, he will help you.

As you speak to the Lord today in your prayer, let him search your heart; let its light reveal the mercy and generosity already there. Allow him to patiently uncover any fear and resentment that holds you down and teach you to show his same love, which has the power to renew your mind and heart, so that you think as he thinks and love as he loves.

Never doubt that the Lord Jesus is the best friend you can have.
