Quien soy?

Lc 9, 18-22

Un día en que Jesús, acompañado de sus discípulos, había ido a un lugar solitario para orar, les preguntó: “¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?” Ellos contestaron: “Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; y otros, que alguno de los antiguos profetas, que ha resucitado”.

Él les dijo: “Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?” Respondió Pedro: “El Mesías de Dios”. Entonces Jesús les ordenó severamente que no lo dijeran a nadie.

Después les dijo: “Es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sufra mucho, que sea rechazado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que sea entregado a la muerte y que resucite al tercer día”.

LK 9:18-22

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude,
and the disciples were with him,
he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah;
still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’”
Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.”
He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.

He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly
and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Meditacion:

En los aeropuertos cuando vas de viaje, en el consultorio del médico, cuando cambias un cheque en el banco, muy a menudo te piden una identificación y sin pensarlo dos veces presentas la licencia de conducir, la tarjeta de residencia, el pasaporte u otra cédula de identidad que certifica quién eres tú.

Pero tú sabes que tu verdadera identidad en realidad no la define un documento. Tu identidad está definida por la red de relaciones que te caracterizan y te sustentan: tus padres, tus hermanos, tus amigos cercanos y tus hijos. Todos ellos han ayudado a formarte de una mejor manera que un simple documento

Cuando el Señor Jesús les preguntó a sus discípulos, “¿Quién dicen ustedes que soy yo?”, Pedro respondió, correctamente y con mucha seguridad: “El Mesías de Dios” (Lucas 9, 20). Pero, ¿hasta qué punto estaba él consciente de que estar junto al Señor había ido moldeado su propia identidad? Pedro y los otros apóstoles habían seguido a Jesús por un tiempo, y él había dejado en ellos una marca indeleble; los había transformado al punto de que ellos estaban decididos a seguirlo hasta la muerte. Tal vez no eran completamente fieles a él, y tenían aún mucho que aprender, pero ya habían sido transformados de manera profunda.

¿Quién dices tú que es el Señor Jesús? Al igual que sucedió con los primeros discípulos, tu respuesta nacerá del tipo de relación que tengas con él. Por ejemplo, si dices “Jesús, tú eres mi Señor y Salvador”, entonces harás lo que él te pida. Si dices “Tú eres el camino, la verdad y la vida”, entonces estarás dispuesto a seguirlo, incluso en tiempos de oscuridad. Si le dices “Tú eres mi amigo”, entonces confiarás en él en cualquier situación que enfrentes.

Desde luego, todas estas son declaraciones absolutas, y ninguno de nosotros puede vivirlas a la perfección. Tampoco podía hacerlo Pedro cuando dio su respuesta. Pero está bien. Cuando el Señor pregunta “¿quién dicen ustedes que soy yo?”, también te está haciendo una invitación: Mantente cerca de mí, sumérgete en mi amor, pasa tiempo con mis seguidores. Tu identidad seguirá cambiando, y tú serás cada vez más fiel a mí, al igual que lo fue Pedro.

“Señor Jesús, tú eres el Cristo. Ayúdame a encontrar mi verdadera identidad en tu amor.” Amen

At airports when you go on a trip, at the doctor's office, when you cash a check at the bank, very often they ask you for identification and without thinking twice you present your driver's license, residence card, passport or other identification identity that certifies who you are.

But you know that your true identity is not actually defined by a document. Your identity is defined by the network of relationships that characterize and sustain you: your parents, your siblings, your close friends, and your children. All of them have helped to train you in a better way than a simple document

When the Lord Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, correctly and with great confidence: “The Messiah of God” (Luke 9:20). But, to what extent was he aware that being with the Lord had shaped his own identity? Peter and the other apostles had followed Jesus for a time, and he had left an indelible mark on them; he had transformed them to the point that they were determined to follow him to death. Perhaps they weren't completely faithful to him, and they still had a lot to learn, but they had already been profoundly transformed.

Who do you say the Lord Jesus is? As with the first disciples, your response will come from the type of relationship you have with him. For example, if you say "Jesus, you are my Lord and Savior," then you will do what he asks of you. If you say "You are the way, the truth and the life," then you will be willing to follow it, even in times of darkness. If you say "You are my friend" then you will trust him in whatever situation you face.

Of course, these are all absolute statements, and none of us can live them perfectly. Neither could Peter when he gave his answer. But it's okay. When the Lord asks “who do you say that I am?”, He is also inviting you: Stay close to me, immerse yourself in my love, spend time with my followers. Your identity will continue to change, and you will be more and more faithful to me, just like Pedro was.

“Lord Jesus, you are the Christ. Help me find my true identity in your love. " Amen
