Un sábado, Jesús fue a comer en casa de uno de los jefes de los fariseos, y éstos estaban espiándolo. Mirando cómo los convidados escogían los primeros lugares, les dijo esta parábola:
“Cuando te inviten a un banquete de bodas, no te sientes en el lugar principal, no sea que haya algún otro invitado más importante que tú, y el que los invitó a los dos venga a decirte: ‘Déjale el lugar a éste’, y tengas que ir a ocupar, lleno de vergüenza, el último asiento. Por el contrario, cuando te inviten, ocupa el último lugar, para que, cuando venga el que te invitó, te diga: ‘Amigo, acércate a la cabecera’.
Entonces te verás honrado en presencia de todos los convidados. Porque el que se engrandece a sí mismo, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será engrandecido’’.

Gospel
On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees,
and the people there were observing him carefully.
He told a parable to those who had been invited,
noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table.
“When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet,
do not recline at table in the place of honor.
A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him,
and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say,
‘Give your place to this man,’
and then you would proceed with embarrassment
to take the lowest place.
Rather, when you are invited,
go and take the lowest place
so that when the host comes to you he may say,
‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’
Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Meditacion:
La mayor parte de la vida de Jesucristo, transcurrió enfrentado al modelo de religión, de piedad, de vida de los fariseos. De ellos recibió todo el rechazo, las preguntas tramposas, las calumnias de todo tipo y sobre todo, sintió el espionaje permanente. Hoy y siempre encontramos el tema de los primeros puestos, de los privilegiados por los títulos, la clase política, social o por los ministerios que desarrolla en la comunidad. Y la situación de la persona, no es tampoco la del anonimato, la de pasar desapercibido, la del último, sino la del que es parte de la comunidad y comprende dónde y cómo ubicarse, cada uno en el servicio que le corresponde. Sin primeros lugares, sin desplazamientos de nadie, porque la capacidad de servir es la que nos ubica mejor, y el que sirve siempre está a la expectativa de las necesidades de las personas que le rodean. Pero, ojo, porque el servicio nos puede colocar en los primeros lugares, y después podemos ser rechazados, lo que la parábola propone es la capacidad de ubicarse en el servicio que sea, con humildad, sin pretender ningún lugar especial. Siempre el último en servirse, en atenderse, en complacerse, mejor es, después de que todos queden satisfechos, entonces es cuando tendremos el momento adecuado para ubicarnos, servirnos y sentirnos a gusto.
Felices los últimos en entrar al banquete de la paz, de la solidaridad universal, pero no últimos por descuidados, sino porque hemos sabido esperar que toda la humanidad quede redimida.

Most of the life of Jesus Christ was spent facing the model of religion, of piety, of the life of the Pharisees. From them he received all the rejection, the cheating questions, the calumnies of all kinds and above all, he felt the permanent espionage. Today and always we find the issue of the first positions, of those privileged by titles, political, social class or by the ministries that it develops in the community. And the situation of the person is not that of anonymity, that of going unnoticed, that of the last, but that of the person who is part of the community and understands where and how to locate, each one in the service that corresponds to him. Without first places, without displacement of anyone, because the capacity to serve is what places us best, and the one who serves is always waiting for the needs of the people around him. But, be careful, because service can place us in the first places, and then we can be rejected, what the parable proposes is the ability to place oneself in whatever service, with humility, without claiming any special place. Always the last to be served, to be served, to be pleased, the better it is, after everyone is satisfied, then it is when we will have the right moment to locate, serve and feel at ease.
Happy are the last to enter the banquet of peace, of universal solidarity, but not last because of carelessness, but because we have known how to hope that all humanity is redeemed.
