Situaciones dificiles

Lc 21, 5-11

En aquel tiempo, como algunos ponderaban la solidez de la construcción del templo y la belleza de las ofrendas votivas que lo adornaban, Jesús dijo: “Días vendrán en que no quedará piedra sobre piedra de todo esto que están admirando; todo será destruido”.

Entonces le preguntaron: “Maestro, ¿cuándo va a ocurrir esto y cuál será la señal de que ya está a punto de suceder?”

Él les respondió: “Cuídense de que nadie los engañe, porque muchos vendrán usurpando mi nombre y dirán: ‘Yo soy el Mesías. El tiempo ha llegado’. Pero no les hagan caso. Cuando oigan hablar de guerras y revoluciones, que no los domine el pánico, porque eso tiene que acontecer, pero todavía no es el fin”.

Luego les dijo: “Se levantará una nación contra otra y un reino contra otro. En diferentes lugares habrá grandes terremotos, epidemias y hambre, y aparecerán en el cielo señales prodigiosas y terribles”.

Gospel

LK 21:5-11

While some people were speaking about
how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings,
Jesus said, “All that you see here–
the days will come when there will not be left
a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

Then they asked him,
“Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?” 
He answered,
“See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,
‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’ 
Do not follow them! 
When you hear of wars and insurrections,
do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end.” 
Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.”

Meditacion:

Imagina la reacción de las personas al escuchar estas palabras de Jesús. Acababa de terminar de expulsar a los cambistas de dinero del Templo, y ahí mismo confrontó a los hipócritas líderes religiosos. Luego, alabó la generosidad de una mujer que hizo una pequeña pero significativa donación para su mantenimiento. Con seguridad Jesús amaba el Templo y estaba por iniciar un tiempo de paz y restauración para el lugar santo donde Dios habitaba.

Así que las personas deben haber quedado sorprendidas cuando en vez de paz y prosperidad, Jesús predijo la destrucción del Templo. ¿Cómo podría suceder eso? Ese era el lugar en que Dios habitaba, el centro de la religión judía. La tradición incluso sostenía que era el propio centro de la creación de Dios. Sin mencionar que, sin el Templo no podía llevarse a cabo el rito anual de la expiación. Imagina lo decepcionante que esta imagen debió resultar para los discípulos de Jesús, ¡casi todos ellos eran judíos devotos!

Bueno, así como el Señor lo predijo, el Templo fue destruido. Sucedió en el año 70 d.C. cuando el ejército romano ingresó para sofocar una rebelión. Esto fue visto como un innegable triunfo de las fuerzas del mal sobre la voluntad de Dios. Pero Dios mismo era capaz de usar esta tragedia y sacar algo bueno de ella. Habiendo desaparecido el Templo, los primeros cristianos podían comprender más profundamente la verdad central de que Dios ahora habitaba en su corazón por el poder del Espíritu Santo.

Es tan cierto hoy como lo era en el año 70 d.C.: Cristo mora siempre en tu corazón y también, de una manera especial, en el sagrario en todas las iglesias de todo el mundo. Y también habita en cada uno de tus hermanos y hermanas en el Señor.

¿Estás luchando por entender una tragedia? Podría ser algo profundamente personal o algo profundamente decepcionante que escuchaste en las noticias. Por supuesto, laméntate por tu pérdida, pídele a Dios que te conceda sanidad y fortaleza. Pero al mismo tiempo, mantente firme en tu fe. Cree, incluso contra toda esperanza, que Dios te sostiene en la palma de su mano. Cree también, que él ya está haciendo su obra para sacar lo bueno de lo malo.

“Señor Jesús, ayúdame a entregarte cualquier situación difícil.”

Imagine the reaction of the people when hearing these words of Jesus. He had just finished expelling the money changers from the Temple, and right there he confronted the hypocritical religious leaders. Then he praised the generosity of a woman who made a small but significant donation to support it. Surely Jesus loved the Temple and was about to initiate a time of peace and restoration for the holy place where God dwelt.

So the people must have been surprised when instead of peace and prosperity, Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple. How could that happen? That was the place where God dwelt, the center of the Jewish religion. Tradition even held that it was the very center of God's creation. Not to mention, without the Temple, the annual rite of atonement could not be performed. Imagine how disappointing this image must have been for Jesus' disciples, almost all of them were devout Jews!

Well, just as the Lord predicted, the Temple was destroyed. It happened in 70 AD. when the Roman army entered to put down a rebellion. This was seen as an undeniable triumph of the forces of evil over the will of God. But God Himself was able to use this tragedy and get something good out of it. With the Temple gone, the early Christians were able to understand more deeply the central truth that God now dwelt in their hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is as true today as it was in AD 70: Christ always dwells in your heart and also, in a special way, in the tabernacle in all churches throughout the world. And also dwell in each of your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Are you struggling to understand a tragedy? It could be something deeply personal or something deeply disappointing that you heard on the news. Of course, be sorry for your loss, ask God to grant you healing and strength. But at the same time, stand firm in your faith. Believe, even against hope, that God is holding you in the palm of his hand. He also believes that he is already doing his work to bring out the good from the bad.
