Lc 1, 26-38
En aquel tiempo, el ángel Gabriel fue enviado por Dios a una ciudad de Galilea, llamada Nazaret, a una virgen desposada con un varón de la estirpe de David, llamado José. La virgen se llamaba María.
Entró el ángel a donde ella estaba y le dijo: “Alégrate, llena de gracia, el Señor está contigo”. Al oír estas palabras, ella se preocupó mucho y se preguntaba qué querría decir semejante saludo.
El ángel le dijo: “No temas, María, porque has hallado gracia ante Dios. Vas a concebir y a dar a luz un hijo y le pondrás por nombre Jesús. Él será grande y será llamado Hijo del Altísimo; el Señor Dios le dará el trono de David, su padre, y él reinará sobre la casa de Jacob por los siglos y su reinado no tendrá fin”.
María le dijo entonces al ángel: “¿Cómo podrá ser esto, puesto que yo permanezco virgen?” El ángel le contestó: “El Espíritu Santo descenderá sobre ti y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá con su sombra. Por eso, el Santo, que va a nacer de ti, será llamado Hijo de Dios. Ahí tienes a tu parienta Isabel, que a pesar de su vejez, ha concebido un hijo y ya va en el sexto mes la que llamaban estéril, porque no hay nada imposible para Dios”. María contestó: “Yo soy la esclava del Señor; cúmplase en mí lo que me has dicho”. Y el ángel se retiró de su presencia.

Gospel
The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

Meditacion:
Si has vivido la experiencia de la maternidad, sabes que se requiere de mucha fe. En muchas formas, es algo que escapa a nuestro control. De repente, tienes una nueva vida en tu vientre, y das lo mejor de ti para nutrir esa vida, pero no sabes cómo saldrá todo. Tú haces lo posible para para que tu hijo reciba el amor y el cuidado que necesita, pero siempre debes confiárselo a Dios.
Hoy que celebramos a la Virgen María, recordemos la profunda fe que ella tuvo, ¡no solo para ser madre, sino para ser la Madre de Dios! Ella no comprendía cómo era posible que daría a luz al Hijo de Dios, pero de todas maneras aceptó la invitación del ángel. Se le dijo que sufriría mucho por su hijo, sin embargo obedeció. ¡María no se intimidaba fácilmente! Cuidó de Jesús por treinta años, soportó su crucifixión y muerte y se mantuvo fiel a él hasta el final.
María tiene muchas cosas que enseñarnos. Como ella, todos somos llamados a traer a Jesús a este mundo, y al igual que ella, nosotros también sufriremos. Cuando enfrentemos las dificultades y tentaciones de la vida en este mundo, podemos olvidarnos del Señor y seguir un camino que presente menos resistencia. O podemos hacer como hizo la Virgen y mantenernos firmes en nuestra fe en la grandeza de Dios. Confiemos en que él nos cuidará y permanezcamos humildes y abiertos a este mundo.
María es más que un simple ejemplo ideal de fe perfecta. Ella es madre, y nos ama como si fuéramos sus propios hijos. San Juan Vianney nos dice: “El corazón de María tiene tanto amor por nosotros que los corazones de otras madres todos juntos solo pueden compararse con un pedazo de hielo.”
Así que acude a María, y no solo para que atienda a tus necesidades. Pídele que te ayude a acercarte más a Jesús y actúa con mucha confianza. Recuerda las palabras del ángel: “El Señor está contigo” (Lucas 1, 28). Ella tiene el privilegio de pertenecer a la corte celestial, y ¡ya está rezando por ti!
“Amado Jesús, por tu Espíritu, ayúdame a imitar las virtudes de tu Madre y a acudir a ella en tiempos de necesidad.”

If you have had the experience of motherhood, you know that it takes a lot of faith. In many ways, it is something that is beyond our control. Suddenly, you have a new life in your belly, and you do your best to nurture that life, but you don't know how everything will turn out. You do everything possible so that your child receives the love and care he needs, but you must always entrust it to God.
Today as we celebrate the Virgin Mary, let us remember the deep faith that she had, not only to be a mother, but to be the Mother of God! She did not understand how it was possible that she would give birth to the Son of God, but she accepted the angel's invitation anyway. She was told that she would suffer greatly for her son, yet she obeyed. Maria was not easily intimidated! She cared for Jesus for thirty years, endured her crucifixion and death, and remained faithful to her to the end.
Maria has many things to teach us. Like her, we are all called to bring Jesus into this world, and like her, we too will suffer. When faced with the difficulties and temptations of life in this world, we can forget about the Lord and follow a path that presents less resistance. Or we can do as the Virgin did and stand firm in our faith in the greatness of God. Let us trust that he will take care of us and remain humble and open to this world.
Mary is more than just an ideal example of perfect faith. She is a mother, and she loves us as if we were her own children. St. John Vianney tells us: "The heart of Mary has so much love for us that the hearts of other mothers all together can only be compared to a piece of ice."
So go to Maria, and not just to attend to your needs. Ask Him to help you draw closer to Jesus and act with great confidence. Remember the angel's words: “The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). She has the privilege of belonging to the heavenly court, and she is already praying for you!
