Mc 1, 14-20

Después de que arrestaron a Juan el Bautista, Jesús se fue a Galilea para predicar el Evangelio de Dios y decía: “Se ha cumplido el tiempo y el Reino de Dios ya está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio”. 

Caminaba Jesús por la orilla del lago de Galilea, cuando vio a Simón y a su hermano, Andrés, echando las redes en el lago, pues eran pescadores. Jesús les dijo: “Síganme y haré de ustedes pescadores de hombres”. Inmediatamente dejaron las redes y lo siguieron. 

Un poco más adelante, vio a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban en una barca, remendando sus redes. Los llamó, y ellos, dejando en la barca a su padre con los trabajadores, se fueron con Jesús.

Mk 1:14-20

After John had been arrested,
Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment.
The Kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,
he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;
they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Then they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther
and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them.
So they left their father Zebedee in the boat
along with the hired men and followed him.

Meditacion:

En el Evangelio de hoy, vemos que Pedro, Santiago, Juan y Andrés dejaron lo que estaban haciendo para seguir a Jesús. Con la sola invitación que él les hizo, ellos saltaron a la acción, de una forma muy similar a la que los padres saltan a la acción cuando sus pequeños hijos hacen un ruido. ¿Cómo sucedió eso?

Bueno, tenemos certeza de que no fue algo mágico. Probablemente no era la primera vez en que ellos se encontraban con Jesús. Como generalmente hacía, San Marcos usó la menor cantidad posible de palabras para describir un proceso mucho más largo: “Jesús se fue a Galilea para predicar el Evangelio de Dios” (Marcos 1, 14). Posiblemente, el Señor ya estaba en Galilea y llevaba algún tiempo hablando sobre la misericordia y la salvación de Dios; podría haber pasado horas con ellos, preparándolos para tomar una decisión. Seguramente él ya ocupaba un lugar en su corazón para el momento en que los llamó a seguirlo.

Desde luego, no sabemos qué provocó una respuesta tan positiva al llamado de Jesús, pero sí sabemos que ellos estaban dispuestos a seguirlo, con algo de dificultad al principio, pero cada vez con más fidelidad. Esto es un espejo de nuestra propia experiencia, entre más tiempo pasamos con Jesús, más campo se abre él en nuestro corazón. Los lazos que establecemos con él son más profundos, nos convencemos más de su amor por nosotros y su voluntad para nosotros se vuelve más dulce y atractiva. Es más, empezamos a corresponder su amor, descubrimos que ha cautivado nuestro corazón y estamos más dispuestos a actuar cuando él nos llama.

Jesús tiene un hermoso plan para ti; acércate a él hoy y permite que te ayude a aceptarlo más profundamente.

“Señor Jesús, te ruego que me des un corazón dispuesto a seguirte.”

In today's Gospel, we see that Peter, James, John, and Andrew stopped what they were doing to follow Jesus. With the single invitation he gave them, they jumped into action, much like parents jump into action when their young children make a noise. How did that happen?

Well, we are certain it was not magical. It was probably not the first time they had met Jesus. As he generally did, St. Mark used as few words as possible to describe a much longer process: "Jesus went to Galilee to preach the Gospel of God" (Mark 1:14). Possibly, the Lord was already in Galilee and had been speaking for some time about God's mercy and salvation; he could have spent hours with them, preparing them to make a decision. Surely he already had a place in his heart by the time he called them to follow him.

Of course, we do not know what prompted such a positive response to Jesus' call, but we do know that they were willing to follow him, with some difficulty at first, but with increasing fidelity. This is a mirror of our own experience, the more time we spend with Jesus, the more field he opens in our hearts. The ties we establish with him are deeper, we become more convinced of his love for us and his will for us becomes sweeter and more attractive. What's more, we begin to reciprocate his love, we discover that he has captivated our hearts and we are more willing to act when he calls us.

Jesus has a beautiful plan for you; reach out to him today and allow him to help you accept him more deeply.
