En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sufra mucho, que sea rechazado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que sea entregado a la muerte y que resucite al tercer día”.

Luego, dirigiéndose a la multitud, les dijo: “Si alguno quiere acompañarme, que no se busque a sí mismo, que tome su cruz de cada día y me siga. 

Pues el que quiera conservar para sí mismo su vida, la perderá; pero el que la pierda por mi causa, ése la encontrará. En efecto, ¿de qué le sirve al hombre ganar todo el mundo, si se pierde a sí mismo o se destruye?’’

Lk 9:22-25

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Then he said to all,
 “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”

Meditacion:

¿Deseas que este tiempo de Cuaresma sea fructífero? Procura verlo como un viaje que estás haciendo junto a los discípulos mientras Jesús se prepara para su pasión, muerte y resurrección. En estos días escucharás al Señor predicar y contar parábolas; lo verás sanar y alimentar a los necesitados. ¿Cómo vas a responder? Diariamente tendrás nuevas oportunidades de tomar una decisión.

Seguir al Señor Jesús implica decidir, como lo dicen las lecturas de hoy. Moisés pronunció este discurso de despedida a los israelitas, y su idea central es que si quieren recibir la vida que viene de Dios, deben decidir seguirlo y obedecerlo (Deuteronomio 30, 15-20). Jesús predijo su pasión y luego le dio a los discípulos una lista de cosas que ellos debían decidir hacer: negarse a sí mismos, tomar su cruz diariamente y seguirlo (Lucas 9, 23). Incluso el salmo describe al pueblo santo que sigue al Señor, ellos no siguen el consejo del malvado; meditan y se deleitan en la ley de Dios; y como resultado, son como un árbol bien plantado y fructífero.

Al igual que con los israelitas, lo mismo sucede con nosotros: seguir a Dios nos da vida. Sin importar tu edad, estatus social o estado de vida, dedica un poco más de tiempo a la oración o la lectura de la Palabra, asiste al Vía Crucis de tu parroquia, ofrece a los pobres, ya sea tu tiempo conversando con el indigente o preparando comidas en un refugio, lava los trastos de tu casa o realiza un servicio para tu familia con una sonrisa.

Y aunque parece una lista espiritual de cosas por hacer, cuando dedicas más tiempo a rezar, descubrirás que la alegría brota en tu corazón, incluso en medio de la dificultad. Al acercarte al necesitado, entenderás mejor el amor de Jesús por los pobres. Al decidir servir a tu familia aun cuando te sientas importunado, puedes descubrir un nuevo sentimiento de paz. Cada decisión de seguir a Jesús alimenta tu alma como el agua que nutre al árbol (Salmo 1, 3).

Así que descansa en la gracia de Dios y acepta su llamado. Mientras caminas con Jesús durante la Cuaresma, comenzarás a parecerte más a él en tus pensamientos, palabras y acciones. ¡Eso es lo que su vida produce en ti!

“Señor Jesús, te suplico que me ayudes a caminar a tu lado hoy y siempre.”

Do you want this Lenten season to be fruitful? Try to see it as a journey that you are taking with the disciples as Jesus prepares for his passion, death and resurrection. Following the Lord Jesus implies deciding, as today's readings say. Moses delivered this farewell speech to the Israelites, and the central idea of ​​it is that if they want to receive the life that comes from God, they must decide to follow and obey him (Deuteronomy 30, 15-20). Jesus predicted his passion and then gave the disciples a list of things they should decide to do: deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow him (Luke 9:23). Even the psalm describes the holy people who follow the Lord, they do not follow the advice of the wicked; they meditate and delight in the law of God; and as a result, they are like a well planted and fruitful tree.

As with the Israelites, it is the same with us: following God gives us life. Regardless of your age, social status or state of life, spend a little more time in prayer or reading the Word, attend the Stations of the Cross in your parish, offer to the poor, either your time talking with the indigent or preparing meals in a shelter, washing the dishes in your house or performing a service for your family with a smile.

And while it seems like a spiritual to-do list, when you spend more time praying, you'll find that joy sprouts in your heart, even in the midst of difficulty. By reaching out to those in need, you will better understand Jesus' love for the poor. By deciding to serve your family even when you feel bothered, you can discover a new sense of peace. Every decision to follow Jesus feeds your soul like the water that nourishes the tree (Psalm 1, 3).

So rest in God's grace and accept his call. As you walk with Jesus during Lent, you will begin to become more like him in your thoughts, words, and actions. That is what his life produces in you!
