Convertirse en cuaresma

Jn 4, 43-54

En aquel tiempo, Jesús salió de Samaria y se fue a Galilea. Jesús mismo había declarado que a ningún profeta se le honra en su propia patria. Cuando llegó, los galileos lo recibieron bien, porque habían visto todo lo que él había hecho en Jerusalén durante la fiesta, pues también ellos habían estado allí.

Volvió entonces a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. Había allí un funcionario real, que tenía un hijo enfermo en Cafarnaúm. Al oír éste que Jesús había venido de Judea a Galilea, fue a verlo y le rogó que fuera a curar a su hijo, que se estaba muriendo. Jesús le dijo: “Si no ven ustedes signos y prodigios, no creen”. Pero el funcionario del rey insistió: “Señor, ven antes de que mi muchachito muera”. Jesús le contestó: “Vete, tu hijo ya está sano”.

Aquel hombre creyó en la palabra de Jesús y se puso en camino. Cuando iba llegando, sus criados le salieron al encuentro para decirle que su hijo ya estaba sano. Él les preguntó a qué hora había empezado la mejoría. Le contestaron: “Ayer, a la una de la tarde, se le quitó la fiebre”. El padre reconoció que a esa misma hora Jesús le había dicho: ‘Tu hijo ya está sano’, y creyó con todos los de su casa.

Esta fue la segunda señal milagrosa que hizo Jesús al volver de Judea a Galilea.

Jn 4:43-54

At that time Jesus left [Samaria] for Galilee.
For Jesus himself testified
that a prophet has no honor in his native place.
When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him,
since they had seen all he had done in Jerusalem at the feast;
for they themselves had gone to the feast.

Then he returned to Cana in Galilee,
where he had made the water wine.
Now there was a royal official whose son was ill in Capernaum.
When he heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea,
he went to him and asked him to come down
and heal his son, who was near death.
Jesus said to him,
“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”
The royal official said to him,
“Sir, come down before my child dies.”
Jesus said to him, “You may go; your son will live.”
The man believed what Jesus said to him and left.
While the man was on his way back,
his slaves met him and told him that his boy would live.
He asked them when he began to recover.
They told him,
“The fever left him yesterday, about one in the afternoon.”
The father realized that just at that time Jesus had said to him,
“Your son will live,”
and he and his whole household came to believe.
Now this was the second sign Jesus did
when he came to Galilee from Judea.

Meditacion:

Para la mayoría de nosotros, la palabra “nuevo” despierta cierto entusiasmo. Una nueva temporada, un nuevo trabajo, un nuevo atuendo: Todas estas cosas provocan sentimientos tales como expectativa y esperanza. En la primera lectura de hoy, del profeta Isaías, Dios le promete a los israelitas algo verdaderamente nuevo: ¡una nueva creación! Probablemente la profecía de Isaías generó los mismos sentimientos de expectativa y entusiasmo en los israelitas, que habían estado sufriendo derrotas y destrucción. La posibilidad de algo nuevo debe haberlos llenado de esperanza.

Nos encontramos relativamente a la mitad del tiempo de Cuaresma. El objetivo de las prácticas cuaresmales es producir fruto en nuestra vida y darle la oportunidad a Dios para que haga algo nuevo en nosotros. Así que hoy, piensa en cuáles “cosas nuevas” están sucediendo en ti y a tu alrededor.

En tu oración, experimentarás una relación nueva o más profunda con el Señor. Podrías descubrir que te sientes más cerca de él. O quizá vengan a tu mente nuevos pensamientos, más bondadosos o compasivos o tengas una comprensión más profunda de la Escritura. Tal vez estás comenzando a escuchar algunas cosas nuevas que Dios te está diciendo personalmente.

Si das limosa podrías sentir una confianza más profunda en el Señor. Podría ser que te vuelvas más generoso, sin temor a no tener suficiente para ti mismo, o experimentes menos preocupación y ansiedad sobre tus finanzas y tu futuro.

A través del arrepentimiento y del Sacramento de la Reconciliación, podrás experimentar el perdón. Te sentirás más liviano al haber sido liberado de la carga de la culpa o la vergüenza. También podrías sentirte más capaz de perdonar a otros.

Recuerda, Dios ya te ha hecho una nueva creación a través de su Hijo (2 Corintios 5, 17). Así que durante esta segunda mitad de la Cuaresma busca más de lo “nuevo” que el Señor está produciendo en ti. Cree que en medio de tus prácticas cuaresmales, su vida está creciendo en ti y nuevas cosas están brotando, incluso si no las ves de inmediato. Pon tu esperanza en Aquel que siempre está creando y recreando, haciendo todas las cosas nuevas en su propio tiempo, incluyéndote a ti.

“Padre, ayúdame, te lo ruego, a ver la nueva vida que estás produciendo en mí.”

For most of us, the word "new" sparks a certain excitement. A new season, a new job, a new outfit: All of these things provoke feelings such as expectation and hope. In today's first reading from the prophet Isaiah, God promises the Israelites something truly new - a new creation! Probably Isaiah's prophecy generated the same feelings of expectation and excitement in the Israelites, who had been suffering defeat and destruction. The possibility of something new must have filled them with hope.

We are relatively in the middle of the Lenten season. The goal of Lenten practices is to produce fruit in our lives and give God the opportunity to do something new in us. So today, he thinks about what “new things” are happening in and around you.

In your prayer, you will experience a new or deeper relationship with the Lord. You may find that you feel closer to him. Or perhaps new, kinder or compassionate thoughts come to your mind, or you have a deeper understanding of Scripture. Perhaps you are beginning to hear some new things that God is saying to you personally.

If you give limosa you could feel a deeper trust in the Lord. It could be that you become more generous, without fear of not having enough for yourself, or experience less worry and anxiety about your finances and your future.

Through repentance and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, you will be able to experience forgiveness. You will feel lighter having been freed from the burden of guilt or shame. You may also feel more capable of forgiving others.

Remember, God has already made you a new creation through his Son (2 Corinthians 5:17). So during this second half of Lent, look for more of the “new” that the Lord is producing in you. He believes that in the middle of your Lenten practices, his life is growing in you and new things are sprouting up, even if you don't see them right away. Put your hope in the One who is always creating and recreating, doing all things new in his own time, including you.

"Father, help me, I beg you, to see the new life that you are producing in me."
