En aquel tiempo, uno de los escribas se acercó a Jesús y le preguntó: “¿Cuál es el primero de todos los mandamientos?” Jesús le respondió: “El primero es: Escucha, Israel: El Señor, nuestro Dios, es el único Señor; amarás al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. El segundo es éste: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. No hay ningún mandamiento mayor que éstos”.
El escriba replicó: “Muy bien, Maestro. Tienes razón, cuando dices que el Señor es único y que no hay otro fuera de él, y amarlo con todo el corazón, con toda el alma, con todas las fuerzas, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo, vale más que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios”.
Jesús, viendo que había hablado muy sensatamente, le dijo: “No estás lejos del Reino de Dios”. Y ya nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.

Gospel
One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
“Which is the first of all the commandments?”
Jesus replied, “The first is this:
Hear, O Israel!
The Lord our God is Lord alone!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength.
The second is this:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these.”
The scribe said to him, “Well said, teacher.
You are right in saying,
He is One and there is no other than he.
And to love him with all your heart,
with all your understanding,
with all your strength,
and to love your neighbor as yourself
is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding,
he said to him,
“You are not far from the Kingdom of God.”
And no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Meditacion:
En el evangelio de hoy San Marcos presenta a Jesús dialogando con un persona muy sincera y, además, entendida en la Ley de Dios. El fundamentalismo religioso de los fariseos había multiplicado los mandamientos en aproximadamente seiscientos treinta, algo asombroso. Fue entonces cuando el escriba se acercó a Jesús y le preguntó: «¿Qué mandamiento es el primero de todos?» Jesús, fundamentándose en las Escrituras, responde que el mandamiento principal no es uno sino dos: el amor a Dios y el amor al prójimo. La respuesta de Jesús se caracteriza por la seguridad soberana con que une el amor a Dios y el amor al prójimo. El escriba admirado replica: «Muy bien, Maestro, tienes razón cuando dices que el Señor es uno solo y no hay otro fuera de él; y que amarlo con todo el corazón, con todo el entendimiento y con todo el ser, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo vale más que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios.» Sólo el amor a Dios hace posible el amor al prójimo, que a su vez hace auténtico el amor que sentimos por Dios.
Aun hoy toda la teología moderna que tanto se ha usado para separar denominaciones, Iglesias, pueblos y personas se reduce a este simple pasaje... amar a Dios y amar al prójimo. Todo lo demas esta de adorno.
Hoy es viernes de cuaresma pero la Cuaresma no significa solamente hacer sacrificios sino también crecer en amor por Dios y el prójimo a través de los sacrificios. Que tus prácticas cuaresmales preparen tu corazón para regocijarte con la resurrección de Cristo en el día de Pascua, y que el deseo de ofrecer nuestra vida por Dios y el prójimo continúe creciendo durante el año.
“Señor Jesucristo, que cada sacrificio que yo haga aumente mi amor por ti y por tu pueblo.”

In today's Gospel, Saint Mark presents Jesus in dialogue with a very sincere person and, furthermore, understood in the Law of God. The religious fundamentalism of the Pharisees had multiplied the commandments by approximately six hundred and thirty, something astonishing. It was then that the scribe approached Jesus and asked, "Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus, based on the Scriptures, answers that the main commandment is not one but two: love of God and love of neighbor. Jesus' response is characterized by the sovereign security with which he unites love of God and love of neighbor. The admiring scribe replies: «Very well, Master, you are right when you say that the Lord is only one and there is no other besides him; and that loving him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with your whole being, and loving your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. " Only love of God makes love of neighbor possible, which in turn makes our love for God authentic.
Even today all the modern theology that has been used so much to separate denominations, churches, peoples and people is reduced to this simple passage ... love God and love your neighbor. Everything else is decorative.
Today is Friday of Lent but Lent does not only mean making sacrifices but also growing in love for God and neighbor through sacrifices. May your Lenten practices prepare your heart to rejoice in the resurrection of Christ on Easter Day, and may the desire to offer our lives for God and neighbor continue to grow throughout the year.
