En aquel tiempo, Jesús expulsó a un demonio, que era mudo. Apenas salió el demonio, habló el mudo y la multitud quedó maravillada. Pero algunos decían: “Éste expulsa a los demonios con el poder de Belzebú, el príncipe de los demonios”. Otros, para ponerlo a prueba, le pedían una señal milagrosa.
Pero Jesús, que conocía sus malas intenciones, les dijo: “Todo reino dividido por luchas internas va a la ruina y se derrumba casa por casa. Si Satanás también está dividido contra sí mismo, ¿cómo mantendrá su reino? Ustedes dicen que yo arrojo a los demonios con el poder de Satanás. Entonces, ¿con el poder de quién los arrojan los hijos de ustedes? Por eso, ellos mismos serán sus jueces. Pero si yo arrojo a los demonios con el dedo de Dios, eso significa que ha llegado a ustedes el Reino de Dios.
Cuando un hombre fuerte y bien armado guarda su palacio, sus bienes están seguros; pero si otro más fuerte lo asalta y lo vence, entonces le quita las armas en que confiaba y después dispone de sus bienes. El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama”

Gospel
Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute,
and when the demon had gone out,
the mute man spoke and the crowds were amazed.
Some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons,
he drives out demons.”
Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven.
But he knew their thoughts and said to them,
“Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste
and house will fall against house.
And if Satan is divided against himself,
how will his kingdom stand?
For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons.
If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul,
by whom do your own people drive them out?
Therefore they will be your judges.
But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons,
then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
When a strong man fully armed guards his palace,
his possessions are safe.
But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him,
he takes away the armor on which he relied
and distributes the spoils.
Whoever is not with me is against me,
and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

Meditacion:
Al leer este Evangelio me he acordado de inmediato aquella frase de un santo padre, san Ireneo: “La gloria de Dios es que el hombre viva”. Porque en definitiva esa es la prueba que les pone Jesús a los que le critican. ¿Cómo es posible que digan que libera los demonios por el arte de Belcebú, el príncipe de los demonios, cuando él se dedica a hacer el bien a las personas que sufren? Porque el demonio no quiere el bien de las personas sino su mal. Por eso Jesús no puede ser su mensajero. Jesús, está claro, es el mensajero de Dios, de su amor misericordioso para con sus hijos e hijas.
Y hay un corolario que el evangelista ha puesto al final de las palabras de Jesús: “El que no está conmigo está contra mí”. Que lo podemos traducir así: “El que no está entregado al servicio de las personas, de su bien, especialmente de los que más sufren, está contra mí”. Nosotros le podemos dar la vuelta a la frase y también será verdad: “El que está entregado al bien de las personas, especialmente de los que más sufren, está conmigo”.
Eso nos abre a los cristianos un campo enorme de colaboración con todos los que, de una manera o de otra, están trabajando al servicio de las personas. Hay infinidad de asociaciones, grupos, organizaciones del más diverso tipo. A veces llevan el apellido cristiano y otras no. A veces son de otras religiones. A veces... Lo importante en cualquier caso es que están formadas por personas de buena voluntad y están poniendo su empeño en mejorar la situación de los que sufren y ayudar a las personas en sus dificultades. ¿Por qué no vamos a colaborar con ellos? Los nuestros no son sólo los que van a misa, a nuestra misa, los domingos. Los nuestros, en palabras de Jesús, son todos los que están con él en ese dar la vida por la salvación de muchos. Porque todos ellos están animados por el mismo espíritu, el Espíritu de Jesús. ¿O vamos a pensar que el Espíritu está recluido entre las cuatro paredes de nuestra Iglesia y de nuestra forma de pensar? El Espíritu de Jesús es libre, salta por encima de barreras, ideologías, credos y razas. Y siempre persigue su último objetivo: que el hombre viva. Porque la vida del hombre es la verdadera y auténtica gloria de Dios.

When reading this Gospel I immediately remembered that phrase of a holy father, Saint Irenaeus: "The glory of God is that man live." Because ultimately that is the test that Jesus puts to those who criticize him. How is it possible that they say that he frees demons by the art of Beelzebub, the prince of demons, when he dedicates himself to doing good to suffering people? Because the devil does not want the good of the people but their bad. That is why Jesus cannot be his messenger. Jesus, of course, is the messenger of God, of his merciful love for his sons and daughters.
And there is a corollary that the evangelist has put at the end of Jesus' words: "He who is not with me is against me." That we can translate it like this: "He who is not dedicated to the service of people, his good, especially those who suffer the most, he is against me." We can turn the phrase around and it will also be true: "He who is dedicated to the good of people, especially those who suffer the most, he is with me."
This opens up for us Christians an enormous field of collaboration with all those who, in one way or another, are working at the service of the people. There are countless associations, groups, organizations of the most diverse type. Sometimes they carry the Christian name and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they are from other religions. Sometimes ... The important thing in any case is that they are made up of people of good will and are making an effort to improve the situation of those who suffer and help people in their difficulties. Why are we not going to collaborate with them? Ours are not only those who go to mass, to our mass, on Sundays. Ours, in the words of Jesus, are all those who are with him in giving his life for the salvation of many. Because they are all animated by the same spirit, the Spirit of Jesus. Or are we going to think that the Spirit is confined within the four walls of our Church and our way of thinking? The Spirit of Jesus is free, he jumps over barriers, ideologies, creeds and races. And he always pursues his ultimate goal: that man live. Because the life of man is the true and authentic glory of God.
