Jn 5, 31-47

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos: “Si yo diera testimonio de mí, mi testimonio no tendría valor; otro es el que da testimonio de mí y yo bien sé que ese testimonio que da de mí, es válido.

Ustedes enviaron mensajeros a Juan el Bautista y él dio testimonio de la verdad. No es que yo quiera apoyarme en el testimonio de un hombre. Si digo esto, es para que ustedes se salven. Juan era la lámpara que ardía y brillaba, y ustedes quisieron alegrarse un instante con su luz. Pero yo tengo un testimonio mejor que el de Juan: las obras que el Padre me ha concedido realizar y que son las que yo hago, dan testimonio de mí y me acreditan como enviado del Padre.

El Padre, que me envió, ha dado testimonio de mí. Ustedes nunca han escuchado su voz ni han visto su rostro, y su palabra no habita en ustedes, porque no le creen al que él ha enviado.

Ustedes estudian las Escrituras pensando encontrar en ellas vida eterna; pues bien, ellas son las que dan testimonio de mí. ¡Y ustedes no quieren venir a mí para tener vida! Yo no busco la gloria que viene de los hombres; es que los conozco y sé que el amor de Dios no está en ellos. Yo he venido en nombre de mi Padre y ustedes no me han recibido. Si otro viniera en nombre propio, a ése sí lo recibirían. ¿Cómo va a ser posible que crean ustedes, que aspiran a recibir gloria los unos de los otros y no buscan la gloria que sólo viene de Dios?

No piensen que yo los voy a acusar ante el Padre; ya hay alguien que los acusa: Moisés, en quien ustedes tienen su esperanza. Si creyeran en Moisés, me creerían a mí, porque él escribió acerca de mí. Pero, si no dan fe a sus escritos, ¿cómo darán fe a mis palabras?’’

Jn 5:31-47

Jesus said to the Jews: 
“If I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is not true.
But there is another who testifies on my behalf,
and I know that the testimony he gives on my behalf is true.
You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth.
I do not accept human testimony,
but I say this so that you may be saved.
He was a burning and shining lamp,
and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light.
But I have testimony greater than John’s.
The works that the Father gave me to accomplish,
these works that I perform testify on my behalf
that the Father has sent me.
Moreover, the Father who sent me has testified on my behalf.
But you have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
and you do not have his word remaining in you,
because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent.
You search the Scriptures,
because you think you have eternal life through them;
even they testify on my behalf.
But you do not want to come to me to have life.

“I do not accept human praise;
moreover, I know that you do not have the love of God in you. 
I came in the name of my Father,
but you do not accept me;
yet if another comes in his own name,
you will accept him.
How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another
and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God?
Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father:
the one who will accuse you is Moses,
in whom you have placed your hope.
For if you had believed Moses,
you would have believed me,
because he wrote about me. 
But if you do not believe his writings,
how will you believe my words?”

Meditacion:

El pueblo de Israel tuvo muchas ocasiones, a lo largo de su historia, de comprobar la acción de Dios en su vida. Más de una vez estuvo al borde de la desaparición (consúltese la historia en Egipto o la vida de la reina Ester) y se vieron salvados de forma milagrosa. Dicho con otras palabras, podían haber sido más fieles a la Alianza que Dios, de forma puramente graciosa, concertó con ellos.

Y, sin embargo, nada de eso. Al faltar Moisés, todo se torció. Se hicieron un becerro de oro, y se inclinaron para adorarlo. Desagradecidos. Una vez más, estuvieron al borde de la destrucción. Menos mal que Moisés era hábil en el arte del diálogo. Sobre todo, sabía que Dios era fiel, aunque el pueblo no lo fuera tanto. Acuérdate de tus siervos, Abrahán, Isaac e Israel, a quienes juraste por ti mismo: “Multiplicaré vuestra descendencia como las estrellas del cielo, y toda esta tierra de que he hablado se la daré a vuestra descendencia para que la posea por siempre”». Y Dios se arrepiente.

Nuestra vida es como la del pueblo de Israel. Momentos de mucha cercanía a Dios nuestro Padre, y ocasiones en las que otros ídolos (poder, dinero, trabajo, envidias, pornografía…) entran en nuestras vidas, llenan nuestros corazones y no dejan hueco para Dios. Es lo que hay.

¿Cómo podréis creer vosotros, que aceptáis gloria unos de otros y no buscáis la gloria que viene el único Dios? Es la crítica, muy dura, de Jesús. Es que la salvación no está nunca garantizada. Aunque seamos de los de “Moisés”, de los de la vieja guardia, de los de toda la vida en la parroquia. Creer o no creer. Ésa es la cuestión. Ahí nos jugamos todos mucho. No es como empieza nuestra historia, sino como acaba.

Seguramente, en nuestra vida hemos sido agraciados con muchos dones por parte de Dios. Y, con mucha probabilidad, no siempre lo hemos agradecido lo suficiente. O, incluso, le hemos dado la espalda, nos hemos negado a aceptar esos dones, o los hemos desaprovechado. El que esté libre de estos pecados, que tire la primera piedra. Jesús nos recuerda que ya tenemos todo lo necesario para salvarnos. Moisés, los profetas, y su mismo testimonio. Así que hay que revisarnos, ajustar lo ajustable, y seguir siempre buscando la voluntad del Padre. Que así sea.

Good thing Moses was skilled in the art of dialogue. Above all, he knew that God was faithful, even though the people were not so faithful. Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by yourself: “I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants so that they may possess it forever” » . And God repents.

Our life is like that of the people of Israel. Moments of great closeness to God our Father, and occasions in which other idols (power, money, work, envy, pornography ...) enter our lives, fill our hearts and leave no room for God. It is what it is.

How can you believe that you accept glory from each other and do not seek the glory that the only God comes? It is the criticism, very harsh, of Jesus. It is that salvation is never guaranteed. Although we are one of "Moisés", of the old guard, of the whole life in the parish. Believe or not believe. That is the question. There we all play a lot. It is not how our story begins, but how it ends.

Surely, in our life we ​​have been graced with many gifts from God. And, in all likelihood, we have not always been grateful enough. Or, we have even turned our backs on it, we have refused to accept those gifts, or we have wasted them. He who is free from these sins, let him cast the first stone. Jesus reminds us that we already have everything we need to save ourselves. Moses, the prophets, and his own testimony to him. So we have to review ourselves, adjust what is adjustable, and always keep looking for the will of the Father. So be it.
