Tanto amor

Jn 3, 16-21

“Tanto amó Dios al mundo, que le entregó a su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna. Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salvara por él. El que cree en él no será condenado; pero el que no cree ya está condenado, por no haber creído en el Hijo único de Dios.

La causa de la condenación es ésta: habiendo venido la luz al mundo, los hombres prefirieron las tinieblas a la luz, porque sus obras eran malas. Todo aquel que hace el mal, aborrece la luz y no se acerca a ella, para que sus obras no se descubran. En cambio, el que obra el bien conforme a la verdad, se acerca a la luz, para que se vea que sus obras están hechas según Dios’’.

GospelJN 3:16-21

God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.
And this is the verdict,
that the light came into the world,
but people preferred darkness to light,
because their works were evil.
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light
and does not come toward the light,
so that his works might not be exposed.
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,
so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

Meditacion:

Las primeras lecturas de esta ultima semana se refieren mayormente al libro de los Hechos de los apostoles y nos cuentan como le iba a esa primera comunidad de Iglesia.

Hoy, relata como los saduceos encarcelaron a los apostoles para evitar que sigan proclamando el evangelio en el templo. Mas tarde, un angel los libero y los mando nuevamente a seguir proclamando en el Templo.

Toda esta cuaresma he reflexionado mucho sobre la intolerancia y nuestra incapacidad para aceptar puntos de vista diferente al nuestro.

Parece ser que cuando algo no es como nosotros pensamos,  lo rechazamos y, mayormente, o nos alejamos o buscamos alejar al que piensa diferente. Y podriamos pensar que solo pasa en el mundo corporativo; Steve Jobs fue sumariamente despedido de Apple y redimido años despues. Y con los apostoles es lo mismo, los judios siguen sin comprender y la primera reaccion es de rechazo y violencia.

Parecemos incapaces de usar nuestra capacidad de aceptacion y caridad para con el hermano  que es distinto.

Y sin embargo Dios entrego a su propio hijo para salvar a todos, incluso a aquellos que no creen en El. Fue un acto de aceptacion amorosa total.

Solo desde su amor es posible comprender la entrega de su Hijo: “entregó a su Unigénito, para que todo el que cree en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna”. La vida de Jesús es vista como don total, libre donación. El Evangelio de hoy presenta la finalidad última del envío del Hijo: la salvación de las personas, no su condenación. El Padre ha enviado su Hijo porque en Él podemos reconocer nuestra identidad de hijos e hijas.

Al utilizar la imagen sencilla de la luz, y su ausencia, las tinieblas, el evangelista Juan nos dice que al que rechaza creer en Jesús es incapaz de reconocer el amor libre de Dios en favor de los seres humanos. No querer el amor Dios es la peor condenación que una persona puede experimentar en su vida.

El deseo de Dios en salvar a todas las personas se hace camino concreto en nuestra realidad personal: creer en Jesús. Él es la Palabra definitiva del Padre hacia nosotros; Él es la luz y la vida de todo ser humano, que se hizo carne para revelarnos el amor infinito y incondicional del Padre. Por eso, creer es más que aceptar un conjunto de doctrinas, es seguir este camino abierto por Dios que da a la vida un sentido y horizonte nuevos y en el camino, aceptar con amorosa vision a nuestros hermanos en el camino.

“Padre Santo, enséñanos a reconocer que en Cristo tenemos el poder necesario para vivir como cristianos auténticos.” Amen

The first readings of this last week mainly refer to the book of the Acts of the Apostles and tell us how this first community of Church was doing.

Today, he relates how the Sadducees imprisoned the apostles to prevent them from continuing to proclaim the gospel in the temple. Later, an angel released them and sent them back to continue proclaiming in the Temple.

All this Lent I have reflected a lot on intolerance and our inability to accept different points of view from ours.

It seems that when something is not as we think, we reject it and, for the most part, we either move away or seek to move away the one who thinks differently. And we might think that it only happens in the corporate world; Steve Jobs was summarily fired from Apple and redeemed years later. And with the apostles it is the same, the Jews still do not understand and the first reaction is one of rejection and violence.

We seem unable to use our capacity for acceptance and charity towards the brother who is different.

And yet God gave his own son to save everyone, even those who don't believe in him. It was an act of total loving acceptance.

Only from his love is it possible to understand the surrender of his Son: "he gave his Only Begotten, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but have eternal life." Jesus' life is seen as a total gift, free donation. Today's Gospel presents the ultimate purpose of sending the Son: the salvation of people, not their condemnation. The Father has sent his Son because in him we can recognize our identity as sons and daughters.

Using the simple image of light, and its absence, darkness, the evangelist John tells us that whoever refuses to believe in Jesus is unable to recognize the free love of God in favor of human beings. Not wanting love God is the worst condemnation a person can experience in his life.

God's desire to save all people becomes a concrete path in our personal reality: to believe in Jesus. He is the definitive Word of the Father to us; He is the light and the life of every human being, who became flesh to reveal to us the infinite and unconditional love of the Father. For this reason, believing is more than accepting a set of doctrines, it is following this path opened by God that gives life a new meaning and horizon and along the way, accepting with loving vision our brothers along the way.

"Holy Father, teach us to recognize that in Christ we have the necessary power to live as authentic Christians." Amen

Renacer de lo alto

Jn 3, 7-15

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a Nicodemo: “No te extrañes de que te haya dicho: ‘Tienen que renacer de lo alto’. El viento sopla donde quiere y oyes su ruido, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va. Así pasa con quien ha nacido del Espíritu”. Nicodemo le preguntó entonces: “¿Cómo puede ser esto?”

Jesús le respondió: “Tú eres maestro de Israel, ¿y no sabes esto? Yo te aseguro que nosotros hablamos de lo que sabemos y damos testimonio de lo que hemos visto, pero ustedes no aceptan nuestro testimonio. Si no creen cuando les hablo de las cosas de la tierra, ¿cómo creerán si les hablo de las celestiales? Nadie ha subido al cielo sino el Hijo del hombre, que bajó del cielo y está en el cielo. Así como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así tiene que ser levantado el Hijo del hombre, para que todo el que crea en él tenga vida eterna”.

GospelJN 3:7B-15

Jesus said to Nicodemus:
“‘You must be born from above.’
The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes,
but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;
so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Nicodemus answered and said to him,
‘How can this happen?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?
Amen, amen, I say to you,
we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen,
but you people do not accept our testimony.
If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe,
how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?
No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

Meditacion:

El Evangelio sigue con el dialogo de Jesús con Nicodemo. Hoy nos presenta el tema del nacimiento de lo alto. En el fondo se presenta la necesidad del hombre en participar de las realidades espirituales por medio de la fe.

Para “nacer de lo alto” hace falta una transformación interior del ser humano, abierto a la transcendencia. Esta apertura no significa agotar el conocimiento sobre Dios, sino dejarse empapar por la gracia divina, dejarse tocar por misericordia. Por eso, al utilizar la imagen del viento, Jesús quiere decir que las realidades celestiales permanecen siendo misterio, por lo que no se explican con criterios humanos. Esto se refuerza con la expresión “nadie ha subido al cielo, sino el que bajó del cielo, el Hijo del hombre” (Jn 3,13).

Jesús es el único y verdadero revelador de Dios y lo hace desde su experiencia inmediata con el Padre y en la cruz, signo de contradicción. La cruz se presenta como el lugar por excelencia de la revelación divina, del amor extremo. ¿Pero, cómo comprender esto? La serpiente puesta en un mástil en el desierto (Nm 21,4-9) sirve como una imagen pedagógica para comprender este misterio. Ella prefiguraba la crucifixión del Mesías, pues de maldición pasa a ser instrumento de sanación para el pueblo de Israel. Del mismo modo la cruz, instrumento de condenación y muerte, en Jesús se transforma en símbolo de salvación. Lo que queda evidente es que el amor y el dolor extremos se encuentran en la experiencia del Mesías crucificado.

Muchas personas buscan explicaciones religiosas para lo que estamos viviendo en estos momentos de pandemia y en otras situaciones en las que nuestra vida se encuentra en peligro. Decir que es un castigo de Dios, no es una respuesta que encuentra fundamentación en la revelación que Jesús nos ofrece. Pero, desde esta experiencia que estamos viviendo en todo el mundo, tenemos la oportunidad en hacer una profunda experiencia de encuentro con Dios, pues allí donde el dolor humano se hace fuerte, con más intensidad, el amor y la misericordia de Dios se hacen presentes.

The Gospel continues with Jesus' dialogue with Nicodemus. Today he introduces us to the theme of the birth from on high. Deep down there is the need for man to participate in spiritual realities through faith.

To "be born from above" requires an internal transformation of the human being, open to transcendence. This openness does not mean exhausting knowledge about God, but letting yourself be soaked by divine grace, letting yourself be touched by mercy. Therefore, by using the image of the wind, Jesus means that heavenly realities remain a mystery, so they are not explained with human criteria. This is reinforced by the expression "no one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of man" (Jn 3:13).

Jesus is the only true revealer of God and he does so from his immediate experience with the Father and on the cross, a sign of contradiction. The cross is presented as the place par excellence of divine revelation, of extreme love. But how to understand this? The serpent placed on a pole in the desert (Nm 21,4-9) serves as a pedagogical image to understand this mystery. She foreshadowed the crucifixion of the Messiah, since from curse it becomes an instrument of healing for the people of Israel. In the same way, the cross, an instrument of condemnation and death, in Jesus becomes a symbol of salvation. What is evident is that extreme love and pain are found in the experience of the crucified Messiah.

Many people seek religious explanations for what we are experiencing in these moments of pandemic and in other situations in which our lives are in danger. Saying that it is a punishment from God is not an answer that finds foundation in the revelation that Jesus offers us. But, from this experience that we are living all over the world, we have the opportunity to make a deep experience of encounter with God, because where human pain becomes strong, with more intensity, the love and mercy of God are present .

Preguntas en la noche

Jn 3, 1-8

Había un fariseo llamado Nicodemo, hombre principal entre los judíos, que fue de noche a ver a Jesús y le dijo: “Maestro, sabemos que has venido de parte de Dios, como maestro; porque nadie puede hacer los signos que tú haces, si Dios no está con él”.

Jesús le contestó: “Yo te aseguro que quien no renace de lo alto, no puede ver el Reino de Dios”. Nicodemo le preguntó: “¿Cómo puede nacer un hombre siendo ya viejo? ¿Acaso puede, por segunda vez, entrar en el vientre de su madre y volver a nacer?”

Le respondió Jesús: “Yo te aseguro que el que no nace del agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el Reino de Dios. Lo que nace de la carne, es carne; lo que nace del Espíritu, es espíritu. No te extrañes de que te haya dicho: ‘Tienen que renacer de lo alto’. El viento sopla donde quiere y oyes su ruido, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va. Así pasa con quien ha nacido del Espíritu”.

Meditacion:

El Evangelio nos sitúa en la noche. Muchos de nosotros nos sentimos como en una larga noche. Necesitamos una luz que alumbre nuestras preguntas, nuestros miedos, nuestras incertidumbres. Nicodemo, trae consigo muchas dudas, pero busca la respuesta. Y la encuentra. No de la forma que buscaba, en un Mesías poderoso, que todo puede solucionar como por arte de magia, sino en el Hijo del hombre elevado en la cruz, prueba suprema del amor del Padre hacia la humanidad.

Para comprender esto es necesario nacer de lo alto, es decir, aceptar la vida como don, del que no podemos disponer por nosotros mismos. Aceptar nuestra existencia como don es, en definitiva, acoger la filiación divina regalada por el Hijo de Dios y vivirla con en fraternidad, que es consecuencia de esta filiación. 

Ayer celebrabamos la fiesta de la Divina Misericordia  y muchas personas siguen preguntandose hoy dia a que se refiere. El evangelio de hoy también apunta alli, porque Jesus tiene paciencia y misericordia con Nicodemo que esperaba como todos alguien que resolviera las cosas de una manera expedita.

Pero el camino de Jesus siempre es de aceptacion, misericordia y amor para nuestro projimo.

Hoy es lunes 20 de abril, para muchos paises en Latinoamerica se comenzaran a levantar las restricciones de la cuarentena y para otros como por aca, aun habra que esperar hasta Mayo.

Pero donde quiera que estes, practica la Santa Misericordia y el amor al projimo en estos dias. Todos estamos un poco nerviosos e intolerantes, hoy mas que nunca se necesitan sonrisas y espiritus alegres, llenos de amor Pascual para derrochar.

"Señor iluminame con tu misericordia, acepta mis dudas y ayudame a convertirlas en certezas de salvacion" Amen

The Gospel places us at night. Many of us feel like a long night. We need a light that illuminates our questions, our fears, our uncertainties. Nicodemus, brings with it many doubts, but seeks the answer. And he finds her. Not in the way he was looking for, in a powerful Messiah, who can solve everything as if by magic, but in the Son of man elevated on the cross, supreme proof of the Father's love for humanity.

To understand this, it is necessary to be born from above, that is, to accept life as a gift, which we cannot dispose of ourselves. To accept our existence as a gift is, in short, to accept the divine filiation given by the Son of God and to live it with fraternity, which is the consequence of this filiation.

Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of Divine Mercy and many people continue to wonder today what it refers to. Today's Gospel also points there, because Jesus has patience and mercy with Nicodemus who, like everyone, expected someone to solve things in an expeditious way.

But the way of Jesus is always one of acceptance, mercy and love for our neighbor.

Today is Monday, April 20, for many countries in Latin America the quarantine restrictions will begin to be lifted and for others, as here, we will still have to wait until May.

But wherever you are, practice Holy Mercy and love of neighbor these days. We are all a little nervous and intolerant, today more than ever it takes smiles and happy spirits, full of Easter love to splurge.

Vayan y prediquen

Mc 16, 9-15

Habiendo resucitado al amanecer del primer día de la semana, Jesús se apareció primero a María Magdalena, de la que había arrojado siete demonios. Ella fue a llevar la noticia a los discípulos, los cuales estaban llorando, agobiados por la tristeza; pero cuando la oyeron decir que estaba vivo y que lo había visto, no le creyeron.

Después de esto, se apareció en otra forma a dos discípulos, que iban de camino hacia una aldea. También ellos fueron a anunciarlo a los demás; pero tampoco a ellos les creyeron.

Por último, se apareció Jesús a los Once, cuando estaban a la mesa, y les echó en cara su incredulidad y dureza de corazón, porque no les habían creído a los que lo habían visto resucitado. Jesús les dijo entonces: “Vayan por todo el mundo y prediquen el Evangelio a toda creatura”.

Meditacion:

El Evangelio es una “buena nueva”, no una ley que oprime, sino la verdad que libera. Los discípulos tenían ante sí el anuncio inédito de la Resurrección y, en cambio, prefieren continuar compadeciéndose de sí mismos. Hemos pecado, ¡sí, le hemos traicionado!, ¡sí, le hemos abandonado! De ahora en adelante, que no sea más así: después de habernos arrepentido, postrémonos a sus pies, y luego, con la cabeza erguida sigamos adelante, ¡en marcha tras sus pasos, siguiendo su ritmo!

Aceptar la resurrección de Jesús nos hace entender a Dios de una manera nueva, como lo que es, un Padre apasionado por la vida de sus hijos, los seres humanos, y comenzamos a amar la vida de una manera diferente. La resurrección de Jesucristo, nuestro Señor, nos hace ver que Dios pone vida donde los hombres ponemos muerte; alguien que genera vida donde los hombres la destruimos. Tal vez nunca la humanidad, amenazada de muerte desde tantos frentes y por tantos peligros que ella misma ha desencadenado, ha necesitado tanto como hoy hombres y mujeres comprometidos incondicionalmente y de manera radical con la defensa de la vida. Esta lucha por la vida debemos iniciarla en nuestro propio corazón, campo de batalla en el que dos tendencias se disputan la primacía: el amor a la vida o el amor a la muerte.

Desde el interior mismo de nuestro corazón vamos decidiendo el sentido de nuestra existencia. O nos orientamos hacia la vida por los caminos de un amor creador, una entrega generosa a los demás, una solidaridad generadora de vida… O nos adentramos por caminos de muerte, instalándonos en el egoísmo estéril y decadente de los rebeldes, una utilización abusiva de los demás, una apatía e indiferencia total ante el sufrimiento ajeno.

Es en su propio corazón donde el creyente, animado por su fe en Jesús resucitado, debe vivificar su existencia, resucitar todo lo que se le ha muerto y orientar decididamente sus energías hacia la vida, superando cobardía, perezas, desgastes y cansancios que nos pueden encerrar en una muerte anticipada. Pero no se trata solamente de revivir personalmente, sino de poner vida donde tantos ponen muerte. ¿Sabemos defender la vida con firmeza en todas las circunstancias?

“Señor mío, Jesucristo, concédeme la gracia de defender la vida con plena convicción.” Amen

The Gospel is "good news", not a law that oppresses, but the truth that liberates. The disciples had before them the unpublished announcement of the Resurrection and, instead, they prefer to continue feeling sorry for themselves. We have sinned, yes, we have betrayed him! Yes, we have abandoned him! From now on, let it not be so: after we have repented, let us prostrate ourselves at his feet, and then, with our heads held high, let us go forward, following his steps, following his rhythm!

Accepting the resurrection of Jesus makes us understand God in a new way, as he is, a Father passionate about the life of his children, human beings, and we begin to love life in a different way. The resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord, makes us see that God puts life where men put death; someone who generates life where men destroy it. Perhaps never humanity, threatened with death on so many fronts and for so many dangers that it has unleashed itself, has needed men and women as unconditionally and radically committed to the defense of life as today. We must start this fight for life in our own hearts, a battlefield in which two tendencies vie for primacy: love of life or love of death.

From the very interior of our heart we are deciding the meaning of our existence. Either we orient ourselves towards life through the paths of a creative love, a generous dedication to others, a solidarity that generates life ... Or we enter the paths of death, settling in the sterile and decadent selfishness of the rebels, an abusive use of the others, an apathy and total indifference to the suffering of others.

It is in his own heart where the believer, animated by his faith in the risen Jesus, must vivify his existence, resurrect everything that has died and decisively direct his energies towards life, overcoming cowardice, laziness, wear and tear that can lock up in an early death. But it is not only about reviving personally, but about putting life where so many put death. Do we know how to defend life firmly in all circumstances?

"Lord Jesus Christ, grant me the grace to defend life with full conviction." Amen

Pescador....

Jn 21, 1-14

En aquel tiempo, Jesús se les apareció otra vez a los discípulos junto al lago de Tiberíades. Se les apareció de esta manera: Estaban juntos Simón Pedro, Tomás (llamado el Gemelo), Natanael (el de Caná de Galilea), los hijos de Zebedeo y otros dos discípulos. Simón Pedro les dijo: “Voy a pescar”. Ellos le respondieron: “También nosotros vamos contigo”. Salieron y se embarcaron, pero aquella noche no pescaron nada.

Estaba amaneciendo, cuando Jesús se apareció en la orilla, pero los discípulos no lo reconocieron. Jesús les dijo: “Muchachos, ¿han pescado algo?” Ellos contestaron: “No”. Entonces él les dijo: “Echen la red a la derecha de la barca y encontrarán peces”. Así lo hicieron, y luego ya no podían jalar la red por tantos pescados.

Entonces el discípulo a quien amaba Jesús le dijo a Pedro: “Es el Señor”. Tan pronto como Simón Pedro oyó decir que era el Señor, se anudó a la cintura la túnica, pues se la había quitado, y se tiró al agua. Los otros discípulos llegaron en la barca, arrastrando la red con los pescados, pues no distaban de tierra más de cien metros.

Tan pronto como saltaron a tierra, vieron unas brasas y sobre ellas un pescado y pan. Jesús les dijo: “Traigan algunos pescados de los que acaban de pescar”. Entonces Simón Pedro subió a la barca y arrastró hasta la orilla la red, repleta de pescados grandes. Eran ciento cincuenta y tres, y a pesar de que eran tantos, no se rompió la red. Luego les dijo Jesús: “Vengan a almorzar”. Y ninguno de los discípulos se atrevía a preguntarle: ‘¿Quién eres?’, porque ya sabían que era el Señor. Jesús se acercó, tomó el pan y se lo dio y también el pescado.

Ésta fue la tercera vez que Jesús se apareció a sus discípulos después de resucitar de entre los muertos.

Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias.
He revealed himself in this way.
Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus,

Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”
They said to him, “We also will come with you.”
So they went out and got into the boat,
but that night they caught nothing.
When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore;
but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?”
They answered him, “No.”
So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat
and you will find something.”
So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in
because of the number of fish.
So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.”
When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord,
he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad,
and jumped into the sea.
The other disciples came in the boat,
for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards,
dragging the net with the fish.
When they climbed out on shore,
they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread.
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.”
So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore
full of one hundred fifty-three large fish.
Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.
Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.”
And none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?”
because they realized it was the Lord.
Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them,
and in like manner the fish.
This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples
after being raised from the dead.

Meditacion:

Jesús se aparece a los discípulos por tercera vez. Pedro ha regresado a su oficio de pescador y los otros se animan a imitarlo. Eran pescadores antes de seguir a Jesús y piensan que pueden volver a su antiguo oficio.

¡Pero aquella noche no pescaron nada! Cuando al amanecer aparece Jesús, no le reconocen hasta que él les pide algo de comer. Al decirle que no tienen nada, él les indica dónde han de lanzar la red. A pesar de que los pescadores se las saben todas, y en este caso han estado trabajando sin frutos, obedecen.

Pedro habla con gran valentía y una certeza interior convencido de que Jesús es ahora el único Salvador; una fe fuerte que le permite confiarse en el Señor resucitado y que ahora es portador de su poder milagroso que sana el cuerpo y el alma.

Concédeme, Señor, la actitud justa respecto a tu acción en el mundo. No permitas que yo busque “signos y prodigios”, como si tú tuvieras que demostrar que existes. Remueve de mí el corazón cerrado a admitir que tú puedes intervenir, incluso de forma extraordinaria, cuando y como quieras. Concédeme discernimiento para que yo sepa reconocer su presencia y la distinga de la incredulidad y la superstición. Concédeme, sobre todo, la fe sencilla de quien no se confía de los “milagros”, aunque también la fe ardiente de quienes se atreven a pedírtelos, sin enojarse cuando no los concedes. Hazme comprender asimismo que no debo poner mi confianza exclusivamente en los medios humanos para la venida del Reino de Dios, sino ser eficaz en la medida en que me proponga buscar las riquezas del mundo. Porque el milagro más grande que nos brindas es la existencia de personas que confían en ti de tal modo que viven pobres y humildes. Es a ellos a quienes concedes, normalmente, la obtención de milagros para el alivio y la alegría de su ser.

“Yo creo en ti, amado Jesús, y creo en las maravillas que tú haces.”

Jesus appears to the disciples a third time. Pedro has returned to his fishing job and the others are encouraged to imitate him. They were fishermen before following Jesus and they think they can go back to their old job.

But that night they caught nothing! When Jesus appears at dawn, they don't recognize him until he asks them for something to eat. By telling him they have nothing, he tells them where to launch the network. Despite the fact that the fishermen know them all, and in this case they have been working without fruits, they obey.

Peter speaks with great courage and an inner certainty convinced that Jesus is now the only Savior; a strong faith that allows him to trust in the risen Lord and who is now the bearer of his miraculous power that heals body and soul.

Grant me, Lord, the right attitude regarding your action in the world. Don't let me search for "signs and wonders," as if you had to prove that you exist. Remove your closed heart from me to admit that you can intervene, even in an extraordinary way, when and how you want. Give me discernment so that I can recognize its presence and distinguish it from disbelief and superstition. Above all, grant me the simple faith of those who do not trust "miracles", but also the ardent faith of those who dare to ask them, without getting angry when you do not grant them. Also make me understand that I should not place my trust exclusively in human resources for the coming of the Kingdom of God, but be effective insofar as I intend to seek the riches of the world. Because the greatest miracle that you offer us is the existence of people who trust you in such a way that they live poor and humble. It is to them that you normally grant miracles for the relief and joy of their being.

Lc 24, 35-48

Cuando los dos discípulos regresaron de Emaús y llegaron al sitio donde estaban reunidos los apóstoles, les contaron lo que les había pasado en el camino y cómo habían reconocido a Jesús al partir el pan.

Mientras hablaban de esas cosas, se presentó Jesús en medio de ellos y les dijo: “La paz esté con ustedes”. Ellos, desconcertados y llenos de temor, creían ver un fantasma. Pero él les dijo: “No teman; soy yo. ¿Por qué se espantan? ¿Por qué surgen dudas en su interior? Miren mis manos y mis pies. Soy yo en persona, tóquenme y convénzanse: un fantasma no tiene ni carne ni huesos, como ven que tengo yo”. Y les mostró las manos y los pies. Pero como ellos no acababan de creer de pura alegría y seguían atónitos, les dijo: “¿Tienen aquí algo de comer?” Le ofrecieron un trozo de pescado asado; él lo tomó y se puso a comer delante de ellos.

Después les dijo: “Lo que ha sucedido es aquello de que les hablaba yo, cuando aún estaba con ustedes: que tenía que cumplirse todo lo que estaba escrito de mí en la ley de Moisés, en los profetas y en los salmos”.

Entonces les abrió el entendimiento para que comprendieran las Escrituras y les dijo: “Está escrito que el Mesías tenía que padecer y había de resucitar de entre los muertos al tercer día, y que en su nombre se había de predicar a todas las naciones, comenzando por Jerusalén, la necesidad de volverse a Dios para el perdón de los pecados. Ustedes son testigos de esto”.

The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way,
and how they had come to recognize him in the breaking of bread.

While they were still speaking about this,
he stood in their midst and said to them,
“Peace be with you.”
But they were startled and terrified
and thought that they were seeing a ghost.
Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled?
And why do questions arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.
Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones
as you can see I have.”
And as he said this,
he showed them his hands and his feet.
While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed,
he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?”
They gave him a piece of baked fish;
he took it and ate it in front of them.

He said to them,
“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,
that everything written about me in the law of Moses
and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.”
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
And he said to them,
“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,
would be preached in his name
to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.”

Meditacion:

Jesucristo resucitado saluda a los discípulos nuevamente con el deseo de la paz, porque no es un fantasma, es totalmente real, pero a veces el temor los sobrecoge. Por el temor, representado por la piedra que cerró el frío sepulcro de Jesús, se encerraron también los discípulos; es decir, el temor los ahoga, están ¡muertos de miedo!... rumiando su desgracia, pues había muerto su Maestro. La esperanza les había abandonado, se les iba la vida. Pero: “La paz esté con ustedes” son las palabras que abren los cerrojos del corazón; la esperanza se restablece y resucita.

Les dijo Jesús: ¿Por qué se espantan? ¿Por qué surgen dudas en su interior? (Lucas 24, 37). Tantas veces nos da miedo “el mundo” y nos “protegemos de él”. Por ejemplo, preferimos repetir fórmulas y oraciones “religiosas” antes que anunciar la fuerza viva del Evangelio, porque nos “compromete”. Miedo a denunciar lo que envilece al hombre, miedo a luchar contra lo que lo disminuye, miedos disfrazados de “prudencia”, olvidando que Cristo tiene un solo rostro… ¡El del prójimo! ¡Paz! Una sola palabra ha sido suficiente para que todo recomience.

En ocasiones es la falta de fe y de vida interior lo que va cambiando las cosas: El miedo pasa a ser la realidad y Cristo se desdibuja de nuestra vida. En cambio, la presencia de Cristo en la vida del creyente aleja las dudas, ilumina nuestra existencia, especialmente en los rincones que ninguna explicación humana puede esclarecer.

La fe no puede brotar en el temor; se desarrolla en la paz de un corazón que, sin necesidad de pruebas y demostraciones, se siente amado y capaz de amar. La fe es como la vida: muere cuando vive angustiada; se envenena cuando ya no se atreve a soñar. ¿Eres tú capaz de “soñar” con un mundo nuevo, diferente, sin temores, lleno de esperanza? ¿Crees que Cristo, resucitado hace 2000 años, sigue presente y actuando en cada uno de nosotros, procurando la paz, formando una comunidad de amor en medio del mundo, a través de nosotros? ¿Cuáles son las dudas y temores que te impiden ser un hombre nuevo o mujer nueva, libre, resucitado, lleno de Dios? ¿Crees de verdad que él está en tu prójimo? Si crees todo esto, el Señor te mirará con amor y te sonreirá para que siempre confíes en su ayuda y su protección.

“Sí, Señor y Salvador mío, creo que ahora vives para siempre y que también estás en mi prójimo.”

The risen Jesus Christ greets the disciples again with the desire for peace, because he is not a ghost, he is totally real, but sometimes fear overwhelms them. Out of fear, represented by the stone that closed the cold tomb of Jesus, the disciples also shut themselves up; that is to say, fear drowns them, they are scared to death! ... ruminating their misfortune, because their Master had died. Hope had abandoned them, their lives were leaving. But: "Peace be with you" are the words that open the locks of the heart; hope is restored and rises.

Jesus said to them: Why are you scared? Why do doubts arise within you? (Luke 24, 37). So many times we are afraid of "the world" and "protect ourselves from it." For example, we prefer to repeat "religious" formulas and prayers before announcing the living force of the Gospel, because it "commits" us. Fear of denouncing what debases man, fear of fighting against what diminishes him, fears disguised as "prudence", forgetting that Christ has only one face ... That of the neighbor! Peace! A single word has been enough for everything to start again.

Sometimes it is the lack of faith and interior life that changes things: Fear becomes reality and Christ blurs our lives. Instead, the presence of Christ in the believer's life removes doubts, illuminates our existence, especially in the corners that no human explanation can clarify.

Faith cannot spring from fear; it develops in the peace of a heart that, without the need for tests and demonstrations, feels loved and capable of loving. Faith is like life: it dies when it lives in anguish; he is poisoned when he no longer dares to dream. Are you able to "dream" of a new, different world, without fear, full of hope? Do you believe that Christ, resurrected 2000 years ago, is still present and acting in each one of us, seeking peace, forming a community of love in the midst of the world, through us? What are the doubts and fears that prevent you from being a new man or a new woman, free, risen, full of God? Do you really believe that he is in your neighbor? If you believe all this, the Lord will look at you with love and smile at you so that you always trust in his help and protection.

"Yes, Lord and Savior of mine, I believe that now you live forever and that you are also in my neighbor."

Caminando con Jesus

Lc 24, 13-35

El mismo día de la resurrección, iban dos de los discípulos hacia un pueblo llamado Emaús, situado a unos once kilómetros de Jerusalén, y comentaban todo lo que había sucedido.

Mientras conversaban y discutían, Jesús se les acercó y comenzó a caminar con ellos; pero los ojos de los dos discípulos estaban velados y no lo reconocieron. Él les preguntó: “¿De qué cosas vienen hablando, tan llenos de tristeza?”

Uno de ellos, llamado Cleofás, le respondió: “¿Eres tú el único forastero que no sabe lo que ha sucedido estos días en Jerusalén?” Él les preguntó: “¿Qué cosa?” Ellos le respondieron: “Lo de Jesús el nazareno, que era un profeta poderoso en obras y palabras, ante Dios y ante todo el pueblo. Cómo los sumos sacerdotes y nuestros jefes lo entregaron para que lo condenaran a muerte, y lo crucificaron. Nosotros esperábamos que él sería el libertador de Israel, y sin embargo, han pasado ya tres días desde que estas cosas sucedieron. Entonces Jesús les dijo: “¡Qué insensatos son ustedes y qué duros de corazón para creer todo lo anunciado por los profetas! ¿Acaso no era necesario que el Mesías padeciera todo esto y así entrara en su gloria?” Y comenzando por Moisés y siguiendo con todos los profetas, les explicó todos los pasajes de la Escritura que se referían a él.

Ya cerca del pueblo a donde se dirigían, él hizo como que iba más lejos; pero ellos le insistieron, diciendo: “Quédate con nosotros, porque ya es tarde y pronto va a oscurecer”. Y entró para quedarse con ellos. Cuando estaban a la mesa, tomó un pan, pronunció la bendición, lo partió y se lo dio. Entonces se les abrieron los ojos y lo reconocieron, pero él se les desapareció. Y ellos se decían el uno al otro: “¡Con razón nuestro corazón ardía, mientras nos hablaba por el camino y nos explicaba las Escrituras!”

Se levantaron inmediatamente y regresaron a Jerusalén, donde encontraron reunidos a los Once con sus compañeros, los cuales les dijeron: “De veras ha resucitado el Señor y se le ha aparecido a Simón”. GospelLK 24:13-35

That very day, the first day of the week,

two of Jesus’ disciples were going

to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus,

and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred.

And it happened that while they were conversing and debating,

Jesus himself drew near and walked with them,

but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.

He asked them,

“What are you discussing as you walk along?”

They stopped, looking downcast.

One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply,

“Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem

who does not know of the things

that have taken place there in these days?”

And he replied to them, “What sort of things?”

They said to him,

“The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene,

who was a prophet mighty in deed and word

before God and all the people,

how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over

to a sentence of death and crucified him.

But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel;

and besides all this,

it is now the third day since this took place.

Some women from our group, however, have astounded us:

they were at the tomb early in the morning

and did not find his Body;

they came back and reported

that they had indeed seen a vision of angels

who announced that he was alive.

Then some of those with us went to the tomb

and found things just as the women had described,

but him they did not see.”

And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are!

How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!

Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things

and enter into his glory?”

Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets,

he interpreted to them what referred to him

in all the Scriptures.

As they approached the village to which they were going,

he gave the impression that he was going on farther.

But they urged him, “Stay with us,

for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.”

So he went in to stay with them.

And it happened that, while he was with them at table,

he took bread, said the blessing,

broke it, and gave it to them.

With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him,

but he vanished from their sight.

Then they said to each other,

“Were not our hearts burning within us

while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”

So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem

where they found gathered together

the Eleven and those with them who were saying,

“The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!”

Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way

and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Meditacion:

Este evangelio es uno de mis preferidos. Y lo es porque es palpable la frustracion de los discipulos, ellos esperaban otra cosa de Jesus, que viniera, liberara y restaurara un viejo esquema de valores, el mismo de siempre, haciendo pagar en fuego y sangre, la liberacion del pueblo de Israel. Y el tiempo habia pasado y nada habia sucedido.

Incluso no le habian creido a Maria Magdalena que lo habia visto y habia estado en el sepulcro.

Pero Jesus no vino para una revolucion de sangre sino de amor. La verdad, me hubiera encantado estar en esa disertacion, en ese acto de amor por el que el buen Jesus se puso a explicarles como a niños a sus discipulos porque debia pasar las cosas como pasaron.

Y me veo a mi mismo y a cada uno de nosotros, caminando a veces con la misma Verdad a nuestro lado y nada... no la vemos... la dejamos pasar...

Envueltos en discusiones y frustraciones de nuestra vida diarias, Jesus camina con nosotros y trata de explicarnos lo mismo. Pero no tenemos tiempo o el suficiente oido... o a veces nuestras busquedas espirituales estan por otro lado...

A veces tenemos suerte y lo descubrimos en la eucaristia, solo por un segundo, podemos apenas mirar la Gloria de la Salvacion pero se nos vuelve a olvidar apenas el Padre termina la misa.

Aprendamos a caminar con Jesus, hablemosle, preguntemosle, El contesta todo, espera por nosotros cada minuto de cada dia.

“Señor, ayúdame a ver cuán valiosas son para ti todas las personas, y concédeme compasión para compartir tu amor con ellos.” Amen

This gospel is one of my favorites. And it is because the frustration of the disciples is palpable, they expected something else from Jesus, that he would come, liberate and restore an old scheme of values, the same as always, making the liberation of the people of Israel pay in fire and blood. And time had passed and nothing had happened.

They had not even believed Maria Magdalena that she had seen him and had been in the grave.

But Jesus did not come for a blood revolution but for love. The truth, I would have loved to be in that lecture, in that act of love for which the good Jesus began to explain to his disciples as children why things should happen as they happened.

And I see myself and each one of us, sometimes walking with the same Truth by our side and nothing ... we don't see it ... we let it pass ...

Engaged in discussions and frustrations of our daily lives, Jesus walks with us and tries to explain the same to us. But we don't have time or enough ear ... or sometimes our spiritual pursuits are elsewhere ...

Sometimes we are lucky and we discover it in the Eucharist, just for a second, we can barely look at the Glory of Salvation but we forget again as soon as the Father finishes the mass.

Let's learn to walk with Jesus, let's talk to him, ask him, He answers everything, he waits for us every minute of every day.

"Lord, help me see how valuable all people are to you, and grant me compassion to share your love with them." Amen
