Mc 7, 31-37

En aquel tiempo, salió Jesús de la región de Tiro y vino de nuevo, por Sidón, al mar de Galilea, atravesando la región de Decápolis. Le llevaron entonces a un hombre sordo y tartamudo, y le suplicaban que le impusiera las manos. Él lo apartó a un lado de la gente, le metió los dedos en los oídos y le tocó la lengua con saliva. Después, mirando al cielo, suspiró y le dijo: "¡Effetá!" (que quiere decir "¡Ábrete!"). Al momento se le abrieron los oídos, se le soltó la traba de la lengua y empezó a hablar sin dificultad.

Él les mandó que no lo dijeran a nadie; pero cuanto más se lo mandaba, ellos con más insistencia lo proclamaban; y todos estaban asombrados y decían: "¡Qué bien lo hace todo! Hace oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos".

GospelMK 7:31-37

Jesus left the district of Tyre
and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
into the district of the Decapolis. 
And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment
and begged him to lay his hand on him.
He took him off by himself away from the crowd. 
He put his finger into the man’s ears
and, spitting, touched his tongue;
then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him,
“Ephphatha!” (that is, “Be opened!”)
And immediately the man’s ears were opened,
his speech impediment was removed,
and he spoke plainly. 
He ordered them not to tell anyone. 
But the more he ordered them not to,
the more they proclaimed it. 
They were exceedingly astonished and they said,
“He has done all things well. 
He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Meditacion:

Entre los entendidos en la lectura del evangelio corre un chiste respecto a este pasaje. Marcos no anda muy ducho en geografía. Si de la zona de Tiro alguien se encamina hacia Sidón, se aleja del Mar de Galilea, al cual tampoco se llega por la Decápolis. Quizá en la fase aramea de la tradición evangélica un originario Betsaida, ciudad vecina al Mar de Galilea, se entendió como beSaidá (=por Sidón), y siguieron desafortunados intentos de arreglo en el tiempo.

Claro que esto no debe importarnos mucho, solo es un dato curioso.

Con cada milagro que Jesus hace, se cumplen las profesias de los antiguos profetas. En Isaías 35,5 leían: “en aquellos días, los oídos del sordo se abrirán, la lengua del mudo cantará”; y Jesús afirmará en Nazaret, tras leer un párrafo de este mismo profeta: “hoy se cumple esta Escritura que habéis oído” (Lc 4,21). Esa fue también la respuesta de Jesús a los discípulos del Bautista cuando le preguntaron si era él el que tenía que venir o aún había que esperar a otro: “…los sordos oyen…” (Lc 7,22).

Jesus se referira insistententemente sobre "el que tenga oidos, que oiga" y se referia a los oidos espirituales, a comprender esta forma nueva y diferente de amar a nuestro projimo porque es un reflejo de Dios.

Tambien Jesus muchas veces les indicara que no divulguen el milagro, con ningun exito porque quien no va a querer salir a proclamar cuando hemos sido curado de un mal que nos aquejo por años?

Y sin embargo, muchas veces, esos malos son solo producidos por nosotros mismos... no hablemos aca de un mal mayor como una sordera pero si de esos "pequeños" males como la pereza, la falta de practicas espirituales, las adicciones al celular o al cigarrillo... esas tambien son problemas que nos alejan del amor de Dios.

Y mientras por aca la tormenta Pineapple express pasa sobre el bay area con su carga de viento y agua, yo los invito a que en este fin de semana nos tomemos unos minutos para orar y pedir sanacion a Dios por esos pequeñas adicciones de cada dia.

“Señor y Salvador mío, te alabo y te bendigo porque por tu gran misericordia, viniste a salvar a tu pueblo. Por eso nos regocijamos y te damos gracias.” Amen

Among the experts in the reading of the Gospel, there is a joke about this passage. Marcos is not very knowledgeable in geography. If from the area of Tire someone is heading towards Sidon, he moves away from the Sea of Galilee, which is also not reached by the Decapolis. Perhaps in the Aramaic phase of the evangelical tradition an original Bethsaida, a city neighboring the Sea of Galilee, was understood as beSaida (= by Sidon), and unfortunate attempts at arrangement in time continued.

With every miracle that Jesus does, the prophecies of the ancient prophets are fulfilled. In Isaiah 35,5 they read: "In those days, the ears of the deaf will be opened, the tongue of the mute will sing"; and Jesus will affirm in Nazareth, after reading a paragraph of this same prophet: "Today this Scripture that you have heard is fulfilled" (Lk 4:21). That was also the answer of Jesus to the disciples of the Baptist when they asked him if it was he who had to come or still had to wait for another: "... the deaf hear ..." (Lk 7,22).

Jesus will insistently refer to "he who has ears, hears" and referred to spiritual ears, to understand this new and different way of loving our neighbor because it is a reflection of God.

Also Jesus will often tell them not to divulge the miracle, with no success because who will not want to go out and proclaim when we have been cured of an illness that has plagued us for years?

And yet, many times, those bad ones are only produced by ourselves ... let's not talk about a greater evil like a deafness but one of those "little" evils like laziness, lack of spiritual practices, addictions to the cell phone or to the cigarette ... those are also problems that take us away from the love of God.

La fe

Mc 7, 24-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús salió de Genesaret y se fue a la región donde se encuentra Tiro. Entró en una casa, pues no quería que nadie se enterara de que estaba ahí, pero no pudo pasar inadvertido. Una mujer, que tenía una niña poseída por un espíritu impuro, se enteró enseguida, fue a buscarlo y se postró a sus pies.

Cuando aquella mujer, una siria de Fenicia y pagana, le rogaba a Jesús que le sacara el demonio a su hija, él le respondió: "Deja que coman primero los hijos. No está bien quitarles el pan a los hijos para echárselo a los perritos". La mujer le replicó: "Sí, Señor; pero también es cierto que los perritos, debajo de la mesa, comen las migajas que tiran los niños".

Entonces Jesús le contestó: "Anda, vete; por eso que has dicho, el demonio ha salido ya de tu hija". Al llegar a su casa, la mujer encontró a su hija recostada en la cama, y ya el demonio había salido de ella

GospelMK 7:24-30

Jesus went to the district of Tyre.
He entered a house and wanted no one to know about it,
but he could not escape notice.
Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him.
She came and fell at his feet.
The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth,
and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
He said to her, “Let the children be fed first.
For it is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She replied and said to him,
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”
Then he said to her, “For saying this, you may go.
The demon has gone out of your daughter.”
When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed
and the demon gone.

Meditacion:

Mientras el mundo comercial celebra a San Valentín (sin saber quizá nada de dicho santo; hay varios con ese nombre), nosotros recordamos a dos grandes evangelizadores que sembraron la fe cristiana en la Europa oriental y cuya herencia se encuentra hoy principalmente en las Iglesias ortodoxas, aunque también en las católicas de rito bizantino.

El papa Juan Pablo II declaró a los santos Cirilo y Metodio Patronos de Europa, subrayando así la pluralidad de ritos de nuestro continente, con su célebre expresión de que la Iglesia tiene que respirar con los dos pulmones: el oriental y el occidental. Es una invitación al enriquecimiento de nuestra espiritualidad, a la misión y al ecumenismo. Muchas de las Iglesias herederas de estos santos han sufrido en el silgo XX dura persecución y martirio bajo los regímenes comunistas. Se merecen especial veneración.

La lectura de hoy nos habla de fe, de derribar barreras (sociales, personales, culturales) para llegar a Jesus.

La mujer que va a pedir el milagro a Jesus no era judia, era extranjera; no estaba bien visto hablar con extranjeros y sin embargo, su corazon de madre sabia que Jesus podia hacer el milagro y nada le importo.

Aun Jesus prueba su fe diciendole que primero los judios con la metafora de los perritos pero la fe lo puede todo, la fe no toma en consideracion ninguna ofensa, solo cree con la pureza del amor.

Pidamos hermanos y hermanas el don de la fe, de creer ultimamente que Dios nos espera al final de nuestra vida y como escribia ayer en las redes sociales, convirtamos nuestra vida en una Iglesia permanente.

“Señor, Salvador mío, gracias por venir a sanar el alma de toda la humanidad. ¡Que todo hombre y mujer de cada raza, lengua y nación te bendiga y te alabe por siempre!” Amen

While the commercial world celebrates Saint Valentine's Day (perhaps not knowing any of this saint, there are several with that name), we remember two great evangelizers who planted the Christian faith in Eastern Europe and whose heritage is today mainly in the Orthodox Churches , although also in the catholics of the Byzantine rite.

Pope John Paul II declared the saints Cyril and Methodius Patrons of Europe, thus underlining the plurality of rites of our continent, with his famous expression that the Church has to breathe with both lungs: the eastern and the western. It is an invitation to enrich our spirituality, mission and ecumenism. Many of the Churches heirs of these saints have suffered in the 20th century hard persecution and martyrdom under communist regimes. They deserve special veneration.

Today's reading speaks of faith, of breaking down barriers (social, personal, cultural) to reach Jesus.

The woman who is going to ask for the miracle from Jesus was not a Jew, she was a foreigner; It was not good to talk with foreigners and yet, his mother's heart knew that Jesus could do the miracle and nothing mattered to him.

Even Jesus tests his faith by telling him that first the Jews with the metaphor of the dogs but the faith can do everything, the faith does not take into consideration any offense, only believe with the purity of love.

Let us ask brothers and sisters for the gift of faith, to believe lately that God awaits us at the end of our life and as he wrote yesterday in social networks, we turn our life into a permanent Church.

"Lord, my Savior, thank you for coming to heal the soul of all mankind. May every man and woman of every race, language and nation bless you and praise you forever! "Amen

Lo que viene de afuera

Mc 7, 14-23

En aquel tiempo, Jesús llamó de nuevo a la gente y les dijo: "Escúchenme todos y entiéndanme. Nada que entre de fuera puede manchar al hombre; lo que sí lo mancha es lo que sale de dentro".

Cuando entró en una casa para alejarse de la muchedumbre, los discípulos le preguntaron qué quería decir aquella parábola. Él les dijo: "¿Ustedes también son incapaces de comprender? ¿No entienden que nada de lo que entra en el hombre desde afuera puede contaminarlo, porque no entra en su corazón, sino en el vientre y después, sale del cuerpo?" Con estas palabras declaraba limpios todos los alimentos.

Luego agregó: "Lo que sí mancha al hombre es lo que sale de dentro; porque del corazón del hombre salen las intenciones malas, las fornicaciones, los robos, los homicidios, los adulterios, las codicias, las injusticias, los fraudes, el desenfreno, las envidias, la difamación, el orgullo y la frivolidad. Todas estas maldades salen de dentro y manchan al hombre".

GospelMK 7:14-23

Jesus summoned the crowd again and said to them,
“Hear me, all of you, and understand.
Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person;
but the things that come out from within are what defile.” 

When he got home away from the crowd
his disciples questioned him about the parable.
He said to them,
“Are even you likewise without understanding?
Do you not realize that everything
that goes into a person from outside cannot defile,
since it enters not the heart but the stomach
and passes out into the latrine?”
(Thus he declared all foods clean.)
“But what comes out of the man, that is what defiles him.
From within the man, from his heart,
come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder,
adultery, greed, malice, deceit,
licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.
All these evils come from within and they defile.”

Meditacion:

Dios desea que imitemos a su Hijo, pero solo podemos hacerlo si confiamos en el poder del Espíritu Santo que recibimos en el Bautismo y decidimos seriamente eliminar de nuestra vida todo lo que no sea justo, santo y recto. No es fácil, claro está, pero tampoco imposible. Lo primero es reconocer que aún hay pecado en nuestra vida y que debemos arrepentirnos, confesarnos y rechazar los malos hábitos.

Pero alabado sea Dios, porque él mismo nos ayuda siempre. Cada día podemos hacernos un examen de conciencia y preguntarnos: ¿Actué hoy con amor y paciencia con mi cónyuge y mis hijos? En mis pensamientos y palabras, ¿honré la dignidad de mi esposa o marido, o tuve palabras o conceptos críticos o de menosprecio? ¿Tuve pensamientos de inmoralidad? Así es como el Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a ver lo que ha salido “de adentro” cada día.

Lee el pasaje de Marcos 7, 21-22 lentamente y pídele al Espíritu que te muestre lo que hay en tu conciencia. Luego, arrepiéntete de corazón por las faltas que hayas cometido y proponte no volver a repetirlas. Pero en todo esto, ¡no te sientas deprimido! El arrepentimiento es un don magnífico, una razón para alegrarse, porque si nos arrepentimos, la Sangre de Jesús puede lavarnos de todos nuestros pecados (1 Juan 1, 6-9). Y para tener la certeza de que Dios te ha limpiado interiormente, procura recibir pronto el Sacramento de la Reconciliación.

No creas que Dios se vaya a sorprender por los pecados que tú tengas, como tampoco nos sorprendemos nosotros. Pero si uno renuncia a sus pecados, puede llenarse de esperanza y alegría, porque se ha librado de la culpa y la vergüenza. Dios nos conoce de pies a cabeza y sin embargo nos ama; así que decídete a luchar contra el pecado. Recibe el perdón de Dios en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación y la Sagrada Eucaristía, para nutrir el alma y fortalecer tu espíritu. Ayuda a tus hermanos y amigos con acciones de bondad y servicio; así todos nos uniremos a los santos en el servicio a Dios, con una conciencia limpia.

“Amado Jesús, te doy gracias por la Sangre que derramaste en la cruz, porque ahora puedo purificarme una y otra vez con ella. Te doy gracias por darme a conocer tu perdón; quiero confiar en tu misericordia hoy y todos los días de mi vida.” Amen

God wants us to imitate His Son, but we can only do it if we trust in the power of the Holy Spirit that we receive in Baptism and we seriously decide to eliminate from our lives everything that is not just, holy and upright. It is not easy, of course, but neither is it impossible. The first thing is to recognize that there is still sin in our life and that we must repent, confess and reject bad habits.

But praise be to God, because he himself always helps us. Every day we can take an examination of conscience and ask ourselves: Did I act today with love and patience with my spouse and my children? In my thoughts and words, did I honor the dignity of my wife or husband, or did I have critical words or concepts of contempt? Did I have thoughts of immorality? This is how the Holy Spirit helps us see what has come "from within" every day.

Read the passage in Mark 7: 21-22 slowly and ask the Spirit to show you what is in your consciousness. Then, repent of your heart for the faults that you have committed and propose not to repeat them again. But in all this, do not feel depressed! Repentance is a magnificent gift, a reason to rejoice, because if we repent, the Blood of Jesus can wash us of all our sins (1 John 1, 6-9). And to have the certainty that God has cleansed you interiorly, try to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation soon.

Do not believe that God will be surprised by the sins that you have, nor will we be surprised. But if you renounce your sins, you can be filled with hope and joy, because you have got rid of guilt and shame. God knows us from head to toe and yet he loves us; so decide to fight against sin. Receive the forgiveness of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist, to nourish the soul and strengthen your spirit. Help your brothers and friends with actions of kindness and service; so we will all join the saints in service to God, with a clean conscience.

"Beloved Jesus, I thank you for the Blood that you shed on the cross, because now I can purify myself again and again with it. I thank you for letting me know your forgiveness; I want to trust in your mercy today and all the days of my life. "Amen

No seamos hipocritas...

Mc 7, 1-13

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús los fariseos y algunos escribas, venidos de Jerusalén. Viendo que algunos de los discípulos de Jesús comían con las manos impuras, es decir, sin habérselas lavado, los fariseos y los escribas le preguntaron: "¿Por qué tus discípulos comen con manos impuras y no siguen la tradición de nuestros mayores?" (Los fariseos y los judíos, en general, no comen sin lavarse antes las manos hasta el codo, siguiendo la tradición de sus mayores; al volver del mercado, no comen sin hacer primero las abluciones, y observan muchas otras cosas por tradición, como purificar los vasos, las jarras y las ollas).

Jesús les contestó: "¡Qué bien profetizó Isaías sobre ustedes, hipócritas, cuando escribió: Este pueblo me honra con los labios, pero su corazón está lejos de mí. Es inútil el culto que me rinden, porque enseñan doctrinas que no son sino preceptos humanos. Ustedes dejan a un lado el mandamiento de Dios, para aferrarse a las tradiciones de los hombres".

Después añadió: "De veras son ustedes muy hábiles para violar el mandamiento de Dios y conservar su tradición. Porque Moisés dijo: Honra a tu padre y a tu madre. El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre, morirá. Pero ustedes dicen: 'Si uno dice a su padre o a su madre: Todo aquello con que yo te podría ayudar es corbán (es decir, ofrenda para el templo), ya no puede hacer nada por su padre o por su madre'. Así anulan la palabra de Dios con esa tradición que se han transmitido. Y hacen muchas cosas semejantes a ésta".

GospelMK 7:1-13

When the Pharisees with some scribes who had come from Jerusalem
gathered around Jesus,
they observed that some of his disciples ate their meals
with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands.
(For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews,
do not eat without carefully washing their hands,
keeping the tradition of the elders.
And on coming from the marketplace
they do not eat without purifying themselves.
And there are many other things that they have traditionally observed,
the purification of cups and jugs and kettles and beds.)
So the Pharisees and scribes questioned him,
"Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders
but instead eat a meal with unclean hands?"  
He responded,
"Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites,
as it is written:

This people honors me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines human precepts.

You disregard God's commandment but cling to human tradition."
He went on to say,
"How well you have set aside the commandment of God
in order to uphold your tradition!
For Moses said,
Honor your father and your mother,
and Whoever curses father or mother shall die.
Yet you say,
'If someone says to father or mother,
"Any support you might have had from me is qorban"'
(meaning, dedicated to God),
you allow him to do nothing more for his father or mother.
You nullify the word of God
in favor of your tradition that you have handed on.
And you do many such things."

Meditacion:

En el curso de los tiempos, muchas veces hemos conservado tradiciones que pensabamos eran importantes y que realmente no servian para mucho.

En nombre de esas tradiciones la Iglesia ha peleado guerras incluso sin mirar que solo estaba causando divisiones y dolor.

Despues del Concilio Vaticano 2, muchas de esas tradiciones han sido dejadas de lado y un concepto de Iglesia abierta se viene imponiendo (demasiado lentamente para mi gusto) entre nosotros.

Jesus fustiga a los fariseos y escribas por su retorcido uso de las tradiciones para escapar de sus obligaciones. Y ojo, que nosotros tambien somos especialistas a veces en usar esas mismas tradiciones para no dar un lugar a Dios y no cumplir con nuestras obligaciones espirituales.

La primera lectura de hoy nos habla de la creacion y que "al septimo dia Dios descanso",

El significado del descanso es la meditacion y la oracion, una pausa en nuestro tiempo para sencillamente compartirlo con nuestro creador; pero generalmente, nosotros lo usamos para ir de shopping o salir a dar vueltas sin pasar por la Iglesia donde el mismo Cristo nos espera,

No convirtamos nuestra vida en una cascara vacia de intenciones, cumplamos con nuestra vida espiritual primero y despues todo lo demas.

“Jesús mío, hoy quiero empezar a hablar, pensar y actuar según lo que sinceramente creo. Ayúdame a respetar a mis padres y tratar a toda mi familia, con amabilidad y buen ánimo, te lo ruego Señor.” Amen

In the course of time, we have often conserved traditions that we thought were important and that really did not serve much.

In the name of those traditions the Church has fought wars even without looking that it was only causing divisions and pain.

After the Second Vatican Council, many of those traditions have been left aside and an open Church concept has been imposed (too slowly for my taste) among us.

Jesus scourges the Pharisees and scribes for their twisted use of traditions to escape their obligations. And beware, we are also specialists sometimes in using those same traditions to not give a place to God and not fulfill our spiritual obligations.

Today's first reading tells us about creation and that "on the seventh day God rested",

The meaning of rest is meditation and prayer, a pause in our time to simply share it with our creator; but generally, we use it to go shopping or to go around without going through the Church where Christ himself awaits us,

Let's not turn our lives into a shell empty of intentions, let's fulfill our spiritual life first and then everything else.

"My Jesus, today I want to start talking, thinking and acting according to what I sincerely believe. Help me to respect my parents and treat my whole family, with kindness and good cheer, I beg you, Lord. "Amen

La sanacion posible

Mc 6, 53-56

En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos terminaron la travesía del lago y tocaron tierra en Genesaret.

Apenas bajaron de la barca, la gente los reconoció y de toda aquella región acudían a él, a cualquier parte donde sabían que se encontraba, y le llevaban en camillas a los enfermos.

A dondequiera que llegaba, en los poblados, ciudades o caseríos, la gente le ponía a sus enfermos en la calle y le rogaba que por lo menos los dejara tocar la punta de su manto; y cuantos lo tocaban, quedaban curados.

GospelMK 6:53-56

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.

Meditacion:

Comienzo de una nueva semana y contemplamos hoy en el evangelio este pasaje que nos habla de como Jesus movia multitudes que buscaban sanacion en El.

Hoy dia hay muchas mas personas que necesitan sanacion. Solo imaginense si Jesus volviera hoy y lo reconocieramos cuantas personas buscarian tocar "al menos su manto" para quedar sanos?

La salvacion de Jesus sigue estando alli, en el sagrario, en la hostia consagrada, en la misa dominical, en la confesion.

Dios nos sigue dando oportunidades de hacer las cosas bien.

No perdamos de vista nuestras practicas espirituales, vayamos a misa, incorporemos a Dios en nuestro quehacer de cada dia.

Entonces un dia veremos el amor de Dios hacerse realidad en nosotros.

“Señor y Dios nuestro, sabemos que tú eres nuestro Sanador y Salvador. Ven, Señor, y tócanos el corazón; muéstranos tu deseo de salvarnos, porque tenemos la mirada fija en ti.” Amen

Beginning of a new week and contemplate today in the gospel this passage that tells us how Jesus moved multitudes that looked for healing in Him.

Today there are many more people who need healing. Just imagine if Jesus returned today and we recognized how many people would seek to touch "at least his cloak" to be healthy?

The salvation of Jesus is still there, in the tabernacle, in the consecrated host, in the Sunday Mass, in the confession.

God continues to give us opportunities to do things well.

Let us not lose sight of our spiritual practices, go to Mass, incorporate God in our daily tasks.

Then one day we will see the love of God come true in us.

"Lord and our God, we know that you are our Healer and Savior. Come, Lord, and touch our hearts; show us your desire to save us, because we have our eyes fixed on you. "Am

Oracion & trabajo

Mc 6, 30-34

En aquel tiempo, los apóstoles volvieron a reunirse con Jesús y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado. Entonces él les dijo: “Vengan conmigo a un lugar solitario, para que descansen un poco”. Porque eran tantos los que iban y venían, que no les dejaban tiempo ni para comer.

Jesús y sus apóstoles se dirigieron en una barca hacia un lugar apartado y tranquilo. La gente los vio irse y los reconoció; entonces de todos los poblados fueron corriendo por tierra a aquel sitio y se les adelantaron.

Cuando Jesús desembarcó, vio una numerosa multitud que lo estaba esperando y se compadeció de ellos, porque andaban como ovejas sin pastor, y se puso a enseñarles muchas cosas.

GospelMK 6:30-34

The Apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
"Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." 
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.

When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.

Meditacion:

Los discipulos habian viajado y misionado, enviado por Jesus y ahora habian vuelto. Jesus, como padre amoroso, los lleva a un lugar apartado, queria saber como les habia ido y compartir con ellos, descansar "porque no  habia tiempo ni para comer".

La accion misionera no tiene descanso, es interminable, el dia no nos alcanza para ayudar a uno, escuchar a otro, alcanzar algo al de mas alla.

Pero Jesus nos llama a descansar y reposar que en el sentido biblico significa orar y meditar.

No podemos ser solo accion sin una fuerte, muy solida base de oracion y meditacion. Cada dia debemos separar unos momentos para reconectar con Dios y luego, fortalecidos por el Espiritu Santo y la Eucaristia, seguir nuestro camino.

Aun hay otro punto para rescatar... las personas vinieron desde muchos puntos para ver a Jesus y El se compadecio "porque eran como ovejas sin pastor" y se puso a enseñarles.

De la misma manera hoy se necesita ser misionero siempre, estar listo para dar testimonio con nuestra vida del catolicismo que nos impulsa y poco a poco esa vision que necesitamos nos impulsara a que se convierta en nuestra propia vida, sera parte de nosotros.

La receta es entonces accion y oracion o como decimos los monjes oracion y trabajo.

“El Señor es mi pastor; nada me falta. En verdes praderas me hace descansar… Tu bondad y tu amor me acompañan a lo largo de mis días, y en tu casa, oh Señor, por siempre viviré.” Amen

The disciples had traveled and missioned, sent by Jesus and now they had returned. Jesus, as a loving father, takes them to a secluded place, wanted to know how they had gone and shared with them, to rest "because there was no time to eat".

The missionary action has no rest, it is endless, the day is not enough to help one, to listen to another, to reach something beyond that.

But Jesus calls us to rest and rest, which in the biblical sense means to pray and meditate.

We can not be just action without a strong, very solid base of prayer and meditation. Each day we must separate a few moments to reconnect with God and then, strengthened by the Holy Spirit and the Eucharist, follow our path.

There is still another point to rescue ... people came from many points to see Jesus and He felt sorry for them "because they were like sheep without a shepherd" and began to teach them.

In the same way today we need to be a missionary always, be ready to give testimony with our life of the Catholicism that drives us and little by little that vision that we need will impel us to become our own life, will be part of us.

The recipe is then action and prayer or as we say the monks prayer and work.

"The Lord is My Shepherd; nothing I miss. In green meadows he makes me rest ... Your goodness and your love accompany me throughout my days, and in your home, oh Lord, I will live forever. "Amen

Vivir sin temor

Mc 6, 14-29

En aquel tiempo, como la fama de Jesús se había extendido tanto, llegó a oídos del rey Herodes el rumor de que Juan el Bautista había resucitado y sus poderes actuaban en Jesús. Otros decían que era Elías; y otros, que era un profeta, comparable a los antiguos. Pero Herodes insistía: “Es Juan, a quien yo le corté la cabeza, y que ha resucitado”.

Herodes había mandado apresar a Juan y lo había metido y encadenado en la cárcel. Herodes se había casado con Herodías, esposa de su hermano Filipo, y Juan le decía: “No te está permitido tener por mujer a la esposa de tu hermano”. Por eso Herodes lo mandó encarcelar.

Herodías sentía por ello gran rencor contra Juan y quería quitarle la vida; pero no sabía cómo, porque Herodes miraba con respeto a Juan, pues sabía que era un hombre recto y santo, y lo tenía custodiado. Cuando lo oía hablar, quedaba desconcertado, pero le gustaba escucharlo.

La ocasión llegó cuando Herodes dio un banquete a su corte, a sus oficiales y a la gente principal de Galilea, con motivo de su cumpleaños. La hija de Herodías bailó durante la fiesta y su baile les gustó mucho a Herodes y a sus invitados. El rey le dijo entonces a la joven: “Pídeme lo que quieras y yo te lo daré”. Y le juró varias veces: “Te daré lo que me pidas, aunque sea la mitad de mi reino”.

Ella fue a preguntarle a su madre: “¿Qué le pido?” Su madre le contestó: “La cabeza de Juan el Bautista”. Volvió ella inmediatamente junto al rey y le dijo: “Quiero que me des ahora mismo, en una charola, la cabeza de Juan el Bautista”.

El rey se puso muy triste, pero debido a su juramento y a los convidados, no quiso desairar a la joven, y enseguida mandó a un verdugo que trajera la cabeza de Juan. El verdugo fue, lo decapitó en la cárcel, trajo la cabeza en una charola, se la entregó a la joven y ella se la entregó a su madre.

Al enterarse de esto, los discípulos de Juan fueron a recoger el cadáver y lo sepultaron.

King Herod heard about Jesus, for his fame had become widespread,
and people were saying,
"John the Baptist has been raised from the dead;
That is why mighty powers are at work in him."
Others were saying, "He is Elijah";
still others, "He is a prophet like any of the prophets."
But when Herod learned of it, he said,
"It is John whom I beheaded. He has been raised up."

Herod was the one who had John arrested and bound in prison
on account of Herodias, 
the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.
John had said to Herod,
"It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."
Herodias harbored a grudge against him
and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.
Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man,
and kept him in custody.
When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed,
yet he liked to listen to him.
Herodias had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday,
gave a banquet for his courtiers, his military officers,
and the leading men of Galilee.
His own daughter came in and performed a dance
that delighted Herod and his guests.
The king said to the girl,
"Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you." 
He even swore many things to her,
"I will grant you whatever you ask of me,
even to half of my kingdom."

She went out and said to her mother,
"What shall I ask for?"
Her mother replied, "The head of John the Baptist."
The girl hurried back to the king's presence and made her request,
"I want you to give me at once on a platter
the head of John the Baptist."
The king was deeply distressed,
but because of his oaths and the guests
he did not wish to break his word to her.
So he promptly dispatched an executioner
with orders to bring back his head.
He went off and beheaded him in the prison.
He brought in the head on a platter
and gave it to the girl.
The girl in turn gave it to her mother.
When his disciples heard about it,
they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Meditacion:

Bien amigos luego de mis vacaciones, regresan estas reflexiones.

Dios me concedio la gracia de encontrarme con algunas personas muy interesantes y charlar sobre Dios para darlo a conocer un poquito mas; tambien celebre el matrimonio de una pareja de amigos muy queridos asi que fue un viaje muy bonito.

Y hoy nos encontramos con el evangelio que relata la muerte de Juan el bautista.

Y si lo leemos bien, veremos que Herodes era un hombre lleno de temores y uno de sus mas grandes temores era al que diran los demas.

Y es tan grande este temor que lo lleva a matar a un profeta que incluso El, sin entenderlo mucho, lo respetaba y le gustaba escuchar.

Ese temor a quedar mal que muchas veces tambien nosotros sentimos... no proclamamos nuestra fe por el que diran, no nos mostramos firmes en nuestras actitudes, marcando el limite moral ante la injusticia, ante la pobreza, ante lo inmoral por el que diran.

Ese temor nos tiene agarrados y, en cierta manera, tambien "matamos" nuevamente a Dios en nuestro corazon.

Hace unos dias charlaba con un amigo en un shopping de Cajica, al norte de Bogota y le decia que la aventura de descubrir a Jesus en mi vida era la mejor aventura que me habia pasado en mi vida; parte de esa aventura es asumir a Dios diariamente, mostrarlo sin temor, comprometerse en el camino de elevacion personal que cada uno tiene.

Entonces para resumir amigos.... No vivamos con temor de asumir nuestro camino espiritual, Jesus nos acompana en cada segundo de nuestra vida,

“Jesús, Señor y Salvador mío, concédeme preferir siempre la vida que tú me ofreces, la vida de la fe, la esperanza y la caridad basada en la verdad y la misericordia.” Amen

Good friends after my vacation, return these thoughts.

God granted me the grace to meet some very interesting people and talk about God to make him know a little more; also celebrate the marriage of a couple of very dear friends so it was a very nice trip.

And today we find the Gospel that relates the death of John the Baptist.

And if we read it well, we will see that Herod was a man full of fears and one of his greatest fears was what others would say.

And this fear is so great that it leads him to kill a prophet that even He, without understanding it very much, respected him and liked to listen.

That fear to be wrong that often we also feel ... we do not proclaim our faith by what they say, we do not show firm in our attitudes, marking the moral limit before the injustice, before the poverty, before the immoral thing by which they will say .

That fear has us gripped and, in a certain way, we also "kill" God again in our hearts.

A few days ago I was chatting with a friend in a mall in Cajica, north of Bogota, and I told him that the adventure of discovering Jesus in my life was the best adventure I had ever had in my life; part of that adventure is to assume God daily, to show it without fear, to commit oneself to the path of personal elevation that each one has.

So to summarize friends ... Do not live with fear of assuming our spiritual path, Jesus accompanies us in every second of our life,

"Jesus, Lord and my Savior, grant me always to prefer the life you offer me, the life of faith, hope and charity based on truth and mercy." Amen
