Soy yo, no teman

Jn 6, 16-21

GospelJN 6:16-21

When it was evening, the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea,
embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum.
It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.
When they had rowed about three or four miles,
they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat,
and they began to be afraid.
But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid."
They wanted to take him into the boat,
but the boat immediately arrived at the shore
to which they were heading.

Meditacion:
Amen

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I read the Gospel today, I smiled for a moment ... Look what happens ... Jesus has just done the miracle of the fish and the loaves and retires, alone, to pray; the disciples go down to fish; They take their boat, they start sailing under a strong wind when they see Jesus walking on the water ... and they get scared.
When we begin to see the glory of God, when God really begins to do miracles in us and one thing happens after the other and we do not understand how what we saw so far today is here ... we are scared.
Humans, so accustomed to battle, to not take anything for granted, when we make things easy we tend to distrust.
Again, prayer and trust in God's love will save us from that moment of fear that drives God's favor away from our attitudes.
Jesus tells the apostles "It's me, do not fear" and they quickly, recognizing him, wanted to put him in the boat but they were practically where they were going.
Today Jesus says to you, to me and to all "I am, do not fear", trust in my love and my power, do not have to battle so much, pray and trust in my hands and I will guide your life to the destiny of glory that from I have always prepared for you. Amen

Solo somos eternidad

Jn 6, 1-15

GospelJN 6:1-15

Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee.
A large crowd followed him,
because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.
Jesus went up on the mountain,
and there he sat down with his disciples.
The Jewish feast of Passover was near.
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him,
he said to Philip, "Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?"
He said this to test him,
because he himself knew what he was going to do.
Philip answered him,
"Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough
for each of them to have a little."
One of his disciples,
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,
"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish;
but what good are these for so many?"
Jesus said, "Have the people recline."
Now there was a great deal of grass in that place.
So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks,
and distributed them to those who were reclining,
and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples,
"Gather the fragments left over,
so that nothing will be wasted."
So they collected them,
and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments
from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat.
When the people saw the sign he had done, they said,
"This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world."
Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off
to make him king,
he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

Meditacion:
Amen

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In these days the first reading refers to how the apostles could not stop proclaiming the gospel and all the opposition that was presented to them by the religious hierarchy.
Today, finally, one of the teachers of the Jewish law, speaking to the Sanhedrin, tells them "do not get involved with these men, let them go." If his idea and activity are human, it will dissolve, but if it is God's thing, you will destroy them, and you will expose yourself to fight against God ».
And in the gospel we contemplate the multiplication of fish and bread.
Last night I wrote about how hopelessness takes away the love of God because we take it out of the center of our lives.
And without God as the center and guide of our daily work, earthly challenges sometimes surpass us.
"With God everything, without God nothing" should be the slogan of our lives. If we put God at the center of it, our future will undoubtedly be of glory.
But like the apostles who did not understand how they were going to do to feed 5000 people, sometimes we only see the immediate, the material and leave aside "the big picture", the great painting, the total landscape.
We are eternity, every step we take we try to see it in that sense .. if we manage to live a life blessed by the Love of the Father, nothing will seem so heavy or so impossible simply because nothing is impossible for God. Amen

Abundancia de corazón...

Jn 3, 31-36

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelJN 3:31-36

The one who comes from above is above all.
The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things.
But the one who comes from heaven is above all.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard,
but no one accepts his testimony.
Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.
For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God.
He does not ration his gift of the Spirit.
The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life,
but the wrath of God remains upon him.

Meditacion:
Amen

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a saying, a phrase, that my mother always repeated "from the abundance of the heart speaks the mouth" and reading this passage of the gospel of today, remembers it.
When one is full of the Holy Spirit, only that speaks. And it has happened to me many times to feel my heart swell in my chest when I hear talk with passion and love of God. Our soul recognizes another soul "in love" with the Blessed Sacrament.
And yet, when you try to evangelize people who are more "on the earth", many times you feel like plowing between stones; You know, you see and you feel that people do not care ... but in my experience, many times that seed that today falls on soil not very fertile, will germinate in the future, in time, many times, lives later.
All these days we are reading in the first reading as the apostles, simply could not stop talking about the miracles that Jesus had done and proclaim his word ... could not because they lived in the love of God of which they had been direct witnesses. And how that testimony, raised the anger of the religious hierarchy that sought to kill them, thinking that everything would be placated.
Darkness always rejects the light of love, when you live in the love of God, many people will reject you because the love of God is for all but not all accept it.
Patience, filial love and mercy are always the best weapons to have on hand in these situations. Amen

Amor filial

Jn 3, 16-21

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelJN 3:16-21

God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.
And this is the verdict,
that the light came into the world,
but people preferred darkness to light,
because their works were evil.
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light
and does not come toward the light,
so that his works might not be exposed.
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,
so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

========================================================

Meditacion:
Amen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In today's Gospel he tells us of God's love for us, "God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life."
We have turned the concept of love into something almost disposable. We love in a petty way and in compartments.
But love is much more than feeling: it encompasses the entire personal reality, all its dimensions. And it can not be otherwise, because the God in whom we believe, a personal God, inhabited by personal relationships, is love. So, love, yes, feels, but also knows and understands, and also wants, decides, moves into action.
We can experience in ourselves what true love consists of. Love is a will, a decision, a commitment that involves renunciation and suffering. You do not really love another person if you are not willing in some way to suffer for them. In fact, who makes us suffer more, but those we love the most? It may seem to us that this is so in us, that we are limited and weak, but not in the case of God, who is omnipotent, so that to love Him does not cost anything (it is free, as it were). It is true that love, because it is the most valuable thing, is a free gift that can not be bought: "if someone wanted to buy love with all the riches of his house, he would be despicable" (Ct 8, 7). But free does not mean cheap. Jesus reminds us today: the immense love of God to the world, an extreme and exaggerated love, has cost him the tear of the surrender of his Son, a total and painful surrender, until death. It has not been free for God to love us "so much", to the extreme: "They rescued you ... not with gold and silver, but at the price of the blood of Christ" (1 Pet 1, 18).
How many times love fails because we are greedy and stubborn and we are not willing to pay its price. In such a case, selfishness overcomes, which exiles us from salvation because it exiles us from love. It is not God who judges or condemns us, but rather we condemn ourselves for not believing in love.
In the Resurrection, on the contrary, we discover a true love, which triumphs over selfishness, because it has surrendered completely, assuming the price that this delivery entails. To live in this world in the context of the resurrection through baptism means living believing that this price is worthwhile (although there is pain and, sometimes, not a little), that it is not a loss, but a gain and that, despite all appearances, love wins.
And this is also expressed in the testimony of faith, in the public testimony of the resurrection. As we see in the first reading, here we must also be willing to pay the price of persecution, but knowing that there is no persecution that can silence the Word, because it is not possible to lock up in a dungeon the love with which God so loved the world . Amen

Camino de santidad

Jn 3, 7-15

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelJN 3:7B-15

Jesus said to Nicodemus:
"'You must be born from above.'
The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes,
but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;
so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
Nicodemus answered and said to him,
'How can this happen?"
Jesus answered and said to him,
"You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?
Amen, amen, I say to you,
we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen,
but you people do not accept our testimony.
If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe,
how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?
No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

Meditacion:
Amen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the first reading of the Gospel today, it shows us how that first primitive Church lived, putting everything in common, living in a perfect community where there was not yours and mine.
Very few times in my life I have experienced that feeling of perfect community but sometimes, in a retreat, in a conviviality, in the daily life in the monastery, I was reminded of that "spirit of brotherhood" that put us closer to heaven than from the earth.
And in the gospel, we contemplate this conversation of Jesus with Nicodemus, teacher of the Law .. would be something like a Doctor in Theology and a priest, who asks Jesus how could this be "reborn from the spirit"?
Jesus reproaches him for not listening to him when he talks about heaven or when he talks about the earth.
We need to be reborn in the spirit, every day, every moment.
We need to "see life through the wounds of Jesus" as Saint Francis of Assisi says that he knew a lot about it.
And this wonderful Saint added a phrase that we must always keep in mind "your acts may be the only gospel that some people hear today".
Therefore, we must pray, work, be very merciful and believe, believe deeply in the mystery of the resurrection of Jesus.
Yesterday, reading the new document of Pope Francis on the call to holiness, I found that for Francis the path of holiness goes through the beatitudes and what we did for others.
We are called to be saints and we are called to be reborn in the spirit, it is a gift that Jesus bought with his own life. I invite you today to reflect on what separates us from a path of holiness, "our" own path of holiness. Amen

La perfecta aceptación de Dios

Lc 1, 26-38

GospelLK 1:26-38

The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin's name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
"Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you."
But she was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
"Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom there will be no end."
But Mary said to the angel,
"How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?"
And the angel said to her in reply,
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God."
Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word."
Then the angel departed from her.

Meditacion:
Amen

Until last week we were reading the gospel about everything that happened after Easter ... the readings were mostly from Mark, leaving the Gospel of John that is read normally in Holy Week and the events of the apostles.
If we were paying attention to this sequence, we would find it strange to find the reading of the announcement today.
What happens here is that, moved to this date by the coincidence of March 25 with Palm Sunday, today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation.
Maria represents the perfection of our acceptance before the mystery of God.
Maria was young, very young; I ran a lot of risks surrendering this way to God, with total confidence, I could have been accused of being adulterated and stoned.
But in the dialogue with the angel Gabriel there are no great doubts, just curiosity about how this could happen. Once his curiosity is satisfied, he does not hesitate to surrender to the designs of God.
I have often asked myself how many of us accept the designs of God in this way ... simple, frank, direct ...
In the Gospel of yesterday we contemplated how Tomas, in a tremendously human attitude, asked to see Jesus to believe. Today we contemplate Mary in a yes full of confidence accept a destiny that could have been of many problems but that was of greatness.
Two attitudes to the dilemma of believing without seeing.
And here comes the contrast between our frequent reactions and the attitude of Mary (prefigured, yes, by the response of faith of so many patriarchs, prophets and just). She is, in the first place, the one who lives in an open place, the one who does not hide. It is true that the words of the Angel disturb her, and that she does not understand everything at first, but she is the one that welcomes and trusts. Finally, Mary is the one who, instead of demanding or asking, offers and collaborates. Mary, Immaculate and full of grace, represents that nucleus of the human being uncontaminated by sin, his capacity to open himself to the call of God, to welcome his word and to place himself at his disposal. For that reason, we do not see in her a strange and distant being: Mary of Nazareth is a human being, she is of our flesh, of our people, she speaks in our dialect. Hence, in a profound intuition of the people of God, almost every place, region and Christian nation claim it as theirs in that multiplication of invocations of the only Mary of Nazareth. She said yes for all of us, so that the Lord can also be with us. And we, contemplating it today in this scene, the summit of the history of humanity converted into a history of salvation, we can adopt its same attitudes, go out into the open, clear fear and distrust, welcome the Word, full of blessings and promises, make us available so that the Word that saves can continue to be embodied today in our world. Amen
