Toma tu cruz...

Lc 14, 25-33

En aquel tiempo, caminaba con Jesús una gran muchedumbre y él, volviéndose a sus discípulos, les dijo:

"Si alguno quiere seguirme y no me prefiere a su padre y a su madre, a su esposa y a sus hijos, a sus hermanos y a sus hermanas, más aún, a sí mismo, no puede ser mi discípulo. Y el que no carga su cruz y me sigue, no puede ser mi discípulo.

Porque, ¿quién de ustedes, si quiere construir una torre, no se pone primero a calcular el costo, para ver si tiene con qué terminarla? No sea que, después de haber echado los cimientos, no pueda acabarla y todos los que se enteren comiencen a burlarse de él, diciendo: 'Este hombre comenzó a construir y no pudo terminar'.

¿O qué rey que va a combatir a otro rey, no se pone primero a considerar si será capaz de salir con diez mil soldados al encuentro del que viene contra él con veinte mil? Porque si no, cuando el otro esté aún lejos, le enviará una embajada para proponerle las condiciones de paz.

Así pues, cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncie a todos sus bienes, no puede ser mi discípulo".

Great crowds were traveling with Jesus,
and he turned and addressed them,
"If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, 
wife and children, brothers and sisters,

cannot be my disciple.
Which of you wishing to construct a tower
does not first sit down and calculate the cost

Meditacion:

Estamos a una semana escasa de acabar el tiempo ordinario y comenzar adviento y, finalmente, Jesus lo dijo... justo antes de comenzar este tiempo mas festivo, Jesus nos dice que seguirlo es una opcion y esa opcion no es para nada sencilla.

"Tomar la cruz y seguirme" es aceptar nuestra vida no siempre tan luminosa y bonita como pensamos sino a veces horribleme y cruelmente pecadora, aceptar nuestras limitaciones y falta de compromiso, nuestros "goles en contra" y seguir.

No es una caida lo terrible en este caminar siguiendo al Maestro, lo terrible es no levantarse, no dibujar con nuestras obras de cada dia una espiral hacia el infinito.

No seamos aguilas que se olvidaron como volar alto porque fueron criadas en un gallinero, destaquemonos por nuestra piedad, por nuestras obras, por nuestra oracion y meditacion profunda en cada momento. 

En suma, debemos pasar de una vida centrada en lo externo a una vida centrada en lo interno, en el silencio y el servicio a los demas.

Hablemos menos, escuchemos mas y oremos mas.

Si queremos ser discípulos auténticos, hemos de estar dispuestos a aceptar el riesgo, el costo y la responsabilidad que ello supone. Incluso al aceptar el costo debemos confiar que Dios nos fortalecerá. Recordemos que si somos fieles, Dios nos concederá la corona de la vida 

“Señor mío Jesucristo, yo quiero cargar la cruz que me toque, pero dame fuerzas, te lo ruego.” Amen

We are a week short of finishing the ordinary time and start Advent and, finally, Jesus said it ... just before beginning this most festive time, Jesus tells us that following him is an option and that option is not at all simple.

"Take the cross and follow me" is to accept our life not always as bright and beautiful as we think but sometimes horribly and cruelly sinful, accept our limitations and lack of commitment, our "goals against" and continue.

El banquete diario

Lc 14, 15-24

En aquel tiempo, uno de los que estaban sentados a la mesa con Jesús le dijo: "Dichoso aquel que participe en el banquete del Reino de Dios".

Entonces Jesús le dijo: "Un hombre preparó un gran banquete y convidó a muchas personas. Cuando llegó la hora del banquete, mandó un criado suyo a avisarles a los invitados que vinieran, porque ya todo estaba listo. Pero todos, sin excepción, comenzaron a disculparse. Uno le dijo: 'Compré un terreno y necesito ir a verlo; te ruego que me disculpes'. Otro le dijo: 'Compré cinco yuntas de bueyes y voy a probarlas; te ruego que me disculpes'. Y otro más le dijo: 'Acabo de casarme y por eso no puedo ir'.

Volvió el criado y le contó todo al amo. Entonces el señor se enojó y le dijo al criado: 'Sal corriendo a las plazas y a las calles de la ciudad y trae a mi casa a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los ciegos y a los cojos'.

Cuando regresó el criado, le dijo: 'Señor, hice lo que me ordenaste, y todavía hay lugar'. Entonces el amo respondió: 'Sal a los caminos y a las veredas; insísteles a todos para que vengan y se llene mi casa. Yo les aseguro que ninguno de los primeros invitados participará de mi banquete' ".

One of those at table with Jesus said to him,
"Blessed is the one who will dine in the Kingdom of God."
He replied to him,
"A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many.
When the time for the dinner came,
he dispatched his servant to say to those invited,
'Come, everything is now ready.'
But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves.
The first said to him,
'I have purchased a field and must go to examine it;
I ask you, consider me excused.'
And another said, 'I have purchased five yoke of oxen
and am on my way to evaluate them;
I ask you, consider me excused.'
And another said, 'I have just married a woman,
and therefore I cannot come.'
The servant went and reported this to his master.
Then the master of the house in a rage commanded his servant,
'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town
and bring in here the poor and the crippled, the blind and the lame.'
The servant reported, 'Sir, your orders have been carried out
and still there is room.'
The master then ordered the servant,
'Go out to the highways and hedgerows
and make people come in that my home may be filled.
For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.'"

Meditacion:

A mi a veces me parece increible que no vaya mas gente a misa o a alguna celebracion espiritual, que las personas no sientan esa necesidad de orar y compartir junto a Dios durante una hora (a veces menos) donde nos reforzamos para nuetra vida diaria.

Durante la celebracion de nuestra Divina Liturgia nosotros decimos "La mesa esta preparada, el pan esta servido y el vino se ha vertido en las copas.. huyamos de la ignorancia.." esta frase, dicha por el sacerdote antes de la comunion, es una llamada a todos para alimentarnos del Pan Celestial que es la comunion.. y a la vez, une lo de ignorancia como un signo de los que no se acercan a la comunion.

En Rusia hay un dicho que suena así: Lo queríamos lo mejor posible y salió como siempre. Cuántas veces hemos hecho buenos propósitos a comienzo de año, al empezar el Adviento o la Cuaresma, al cumplir años, al terminar un retiro o unos ejercicios… Y al final, nada – o muy poco – cambia. Siempre hay algo que se pone en contra nuestra, o mejor dicho, nos dejamos estorbar por muchas cosas, que en realidad no son tan necesarias. Y aparcamos a Cristo a un lado, y vivimos preocupados y ocupados en muchas cosas.

No sabemos cómo acabaría la vida del anónimo seguidor de Jesús que habló en esa comida. Escuchó esa advertencia y quizá pensó que la cosa no iba con él: Yo nunca dejaré al Maestro por nada. O puede ser que estuviera con Él hasta el final, en su camino hasta Jerusalén. Sólo sé que en mi vida hay muchas excusas para no entregarme del todo a Cristo. A mi alrededor, hay mucha gente sencilla que vive con mucha entrega su fe. A pesar del tiempo frío, de la nieve, del hielo, de la oscuridad… Su ejemplo me anima a seguir hacia adelante, con esperanza. Porque yo también, como el anónimo protagonista del relato, quiero estar en el banquete del Reino. Y para eso, hay que esforzarse cada día, como si fuera el primero, y como si fuera el último de nuestra vida. Como si fuera el único. Dios nos ayuda siempre. 

“Padre celestial, creo que si hago lo posible por acercarme a tu lado, tú me concederás inmensas e incontables bendiciones.” Amen

Sometimes it seems incredible to me that no more people go to mass or to some spiritual celebration, that people do not feel that need to pray and share with God for an hour (sometimes less) where we reinforce ourselves for our daily life.

During the celebration of our Divine Liturgy we say "The table is prepared, the bread is served and the wine has been poured into the cups .. let's flee from ignorance ..." This phrase, spoken by the priest before the communion, is a call to all to feed on the Celestial Bread that is communion .. and at the same time, unites the ignorance as a sign of those who do not approach communion.

In Russia there is a saying that sounds like this: We wanted it the best we could and it went as always. How many times have we made good intentions at the beginning of the year, at the beginning of Advent or Lent, when we turn years, when finishing a retreat or some exercises ... And in the end, nothing - or very little - changes. There is always something that is against us, or rather, we allow ourselves to get in the way of many things, which in reality are not so necessary. And we put Christ aside, and we live worried and busy in many things.

We do not know how the life of the anonymous follower of Jesus who spoke in that meal would end. He heard that warning and maybe he thought that the thing was not with him: I will never leave the Master for nothing. Or it could be that he was with Him until the end, on his way to Jerusalem. I only know that in my life there are many excuses not to give myself completely to Christ. Around me, there are many simple people who live with great dedication their faith. Despite the cold weather, the snow, the ice, the darkness ... His example encourages me to continue forward, with hope. Because I too, like the anonymous protagonist of the story, I want to be at the banquet of the Kingdom. And for that, you have to strive every day, as if it were the first, and as if it were the last of our life. As if he were the only one. God helps us always.

"Heavenly Father, I believe that if I do my best to approach you, you will grant me immense and countless blessings." Amen

La fiesta

Lc 14, 12-14

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo al jefe de los fariseos que lo había invitado a comer:

"Cuando des una comida o una cena, no invites a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a los vecinos ricos; porque puede ser que ellos te inviten a su vez, y con eso quedarías recompensado.

Al contrario, cuando des un banquete, invita a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos y a los ciegos; y así serás dichoso, porque ellos no tienen con qué pagarte; pero ya se te pagará, cuando resuciten los justos".

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees.
He said to the host who invited him,
"When you hold a lunch or a dinner,
do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters
or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors,
in case they may invite you back and you have repayment.
Rather, when you hold a banquet,
invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; 
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.
For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Meditacion:

Bueno.. muchas cosas pasaron este fin de semana pero hoy es lunes y comenzamos este nuevo tiempo.

Ya tenemos adviento a la vista, ya este "tiempo ordinario" que de ordinario no tiene nada se nos esta terminando. Espero amigos que lo hayan usado como una escalera que nos llevara preparado y listos hacia el adviento y la navidad.

Hoy  leemos este evangelio donde Jesus nos sigue repitiendo la parabola de la fiesta de una forma distinta... Leyendo por aqui y por alla para buscar un sentido mas profundo a esta lectura, encontre un parrafo interesante que me gustaria compartir:

"Corren tiempos recios para la beneficencia. La crisis está afectando a todo y a todos. Mucha gente sufre en sus carnes lo que significa no poder vivir con dignidad. Quizá en esta clave podemos leer también el texto evangélico de hoy. La Doctrina Social de la Iglesia, de la que no siempre conocemos mucho, nos da algunas pistas. El número 172 del Compendio de la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia dice: 

El principio del destino universal de los bienes de la tierra está en la base del derecho universal al uso de los bienes. Todo hombre debe tener la posibilidad de gozar del bienestar necesario para su pleno desarrollo: el principio del uso común de los bienes, es el «primer principio de todo el ordenamiento ético-social» y «principio peculiar de la doctrina social cristiana». Por esta razón la Iglesia considera un deber precisar su naturaleza y sus características. Se trata ante todo de un derecho natural, inscrito en la naturaleza del hombre, y no sólo de un derecho positivo, ligado a la contingencia histórica; además este derecho es «originario». […]  «Todos los demás derechos, sean los que sean, comprendidos en ellos los de propiedad y comercio libre, a ello [destino universal de los bienes] están subordinados: no deben estorbar, antes al contrario, facilitar su realización, y es un deber social grave y urgente hacerlos volver a su finalidad primera».

Los números siguientes desarrollan esta idea, pero las palabras de Jesús tienen su acogida en lo que la Iglesia enseña. Todo lo que tenemos y hemos ganado con nuestro esfuerzo es nuestro, por supuesto. Pero somos deudores de nuestros hermanos, algunos menos afortunados que nosotros. Y todo lo que tenemos, lo hemos recibido de Dios. Así que se lo podemos devolver a Él, compartiendo con los demás. Hace unos años, se puso de moda el movimiento del 0,7 %. Se le pedía al Estado y a los organismos de la Administración que donaran el 0,7 % de su presupuesto a obras benéficas. Quizá sea hoy un buen día para palparnos la cartera, y ver qué tal está nuestra generosidad. Que todos tenemos relación con todos. Y una fe sin obras, es una fe muerta. ¿Llegan nuestros donativos al 0,7 % de lo que tenemos? ¿Quieres hacer algo por los demás? No dejes para mañana lo que puedas hacer hoy.

O sea mis amigos que como yo siempre les digo, solo somos administradores de nuestros bienes y se nos han sido dados solo para ayudar a otros.

“El amor de Cristo nos apremia” dice la 2 de Corintios y nos lleva a hacer algo que sea en bien de los demás.

“Jesús, Redentor mío, enséñame a ser un instrumento apto para que tu amor fluya hacia los demás, especialmente a los necesitados.” Amen

The following numbers develop this idea, but the words of Jesus have their reception in what the Church teaches. Everything we have and have won with our effort is ours, of course. But we are debtors to our brothers, some less fortunate than us. And everything we have, we have received from God. So we can give it back to Him, sharing with others. A few years ago, the 0.7% movement became fashionable. The State and the agencies of the Administration were asked to donate 0.7% of their budget to charities. Maybe today is a good day to touch our wallet, and see how our generosity is. That we all have a relationship with everyone. And a faith without works, is a dead faith. Do our donations reach 0.7% of what we have? Do you want to do something for others? Do not leave for tomorrow what you can do today.

That is, my friends that, as I always tell them, we are only administrators of our goods and they have been given to us only to help others.

"The love of Christ urges us" says 2 Corinthians and leads us to do something that is for the good of others.

"Jesus, my Redeemer, teach me to be an apt instrument for your love to flow towards others, especially those in need." Amen

Humildad y servicio

Lc 14, 1. 7-11

Un sábado, Jesús fue a comer en casa de uno de los jefes de los fariseos, y éstos estaban espiándolo. Mirando cómo los convidados escogían los primeros lugares, les dijo esta parábola:

"Cuando te inviten a un banquete de bodas, no te sientes en el lugar principal, no sea que haya algún otro invitado más importante que tú, y el que los invitó a los dos venga a decirte: 'Déjale el lugar a éste', y tengas que ir a ocupar, lleno de vergüenza, el último asiento. Por el contrario, cuando te inviten, ocupa el último lugar, para que, cuando venga el que te invitó, te diga: 'Amigo, acércate a la cabecera'.

Entonces te verás honrado en presencia de todos los convidados. Porque el que se engrandece a sí mismo, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será engrandecido''.4

GospelLK 14:1, 7-11

do not recline at table in the place of honor.

'Give your place to this man,'
and then you would proceed with embarrassment
to take the lowest place.
Rather, when you are invited, 
go and take the lowest place
so that when the host comes to you he may say,
'My friend, move up to a higher position.'

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

Meditacion:

A pocas horas de ser entronizado como Parroco y Sacerdote de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Catolica de America, mi propia vision de este evangelio, especialmente en el dia en que se celebra a San Martin de Porres, un Santo particularmente especial en lo que hace a caridad y humildad, sin duda es diferente.

Porque este Santo sin duda tiene mucho que decirnos y contarnos en nuestra propia vida, en especial, en la mia como clerigo.

San Martincito, el santo de los pobres, el que barria la Iglesia, el mestizo que jamas aspiro a nada mas que ayudar, curar a los pobres y trabajar en la cocina.

Sin embargo, San Martin desde abajo, sin aspirar a nada mas que meditar frente al Santisimo, nos da un ejemplo enorme de los que Jesus nos dice hoy en el evangelio... No importan los puestos, los cargos, no importa el figurar sino importan las acciones las obras y yo, particularmente, les diria que importa mucho la constancia, ser constantes en nuestra vida espiritual y en nuestra vida como misioneros y cristianos.

En pocas horas sere ordenado, es un honor altisimo pero tambien una enorme responsabilidad que me ha llevado mucho tiempo de reflexion y meditacion pero tambien quiero dejarle este mensaje a los que me leen... sigan a Cristo, entreguense en sus manos, no deseen ni busquen otra cosa que servir como San Martin de Porres; no se olviden nunca que no buscamos el reconocimiento humano sino el de Dios.. Y les dejo una frase del evangelio que yo aplico mucho en mi propia vida y me obligo a aplicarla porque por alli se me olvida 

"Que tu mano derecha no sepa lo que hace tu mano izquierda" Dios los bendiga y espero verlos en la Parroquia hoy en la tarde. Amen

Dia de difuntos

Jn 6, 37-40

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a la multitud: "Todo aquel que me da el Padre viene hacia mí; y al que viene a mí yo no lo echaré fuera, porque he bajado del cielo, no para hacer mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió.

Y la voluntad del que me envió es que yo no pierda nada de lo que él me ha dado, sino que lo resucite en el último día. La voluntad de mi Padre consiste en que todo el que vea al Hijo y crea en él, tenga vida eterna y yo lo resucite en el último día''.

"Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,

Meditacion:

Ayer celebramos Dia de todos los Santos y hoy, dia de nuestros queridos difuntos.

Es importante conservar esta tradicion de honrrar a los que nos precedieron en esta vida, marcandonos de cierta manera el camino y, tal vez, si vivieron una vida de fe, dejandonos bendiciones para la nuestra.

En este mundo tan tecnificado hemos perdido nocion y contacto con algo tan natural como es la muerte. Pocos de nosotros hemos contemplado la muerte de un ser querido ya que generalmente y con raras excepciones, ocurre en un hospital, fuera de nuesta vista.

Al reflexionar hoy dia sobre los que aun amamos y extrañamos pero ya no estan aca, pensemos en nuestra propia humanidad; hoy es un buen momento para pensar nuestra propia vida y como la estamos viviendo.

Hay solo dos dias en nuestra vida que no tendran 24 hs... uno, ya lo hemos vivido en nuestro nacimiento; el otro, sera el dia de nuestra partida... que lo que hagamos entre medio de esos dos dias nos haga mejores personas, mejores catolicos, mejores padres o madres o esposos.

Y que cuando llegue nuestro momento, nos encontremos preparados y volemos hacia el Padre, dejando atras nuestro una corona de buenos momentos para ser recordados.

“Padre eterno, te doy gracias por tu gran misericordia y tu generosidad, porque en lugar de tratarme como merecen mis maldades, me ofreces la purificación por medio de tu Hijo, mi Señor.” Amen

Yesterday we celebrated All Saints' Day and today, the day of our dear departed.

It is important to preserve this tradition of honoring those who preceded us in this life, marking us in a certain way the way and, perhaps, if they lived a life of faith, leaving us blessings for ours.

As we reflect today on those we still love and miss but are no longer here, let us think about our own humanity; Today is a good time to think about our own lives and how we are living it.

There are only two days in our life that will not have 24 hours ... one, we have already experienced it at our birth; the other will be the day of our departure ... that what we do between those two days will make us better people, better Catholics, better fathers or mothers or husbands.

And when our time comes, we find ourselves ready and fly towards the Father, leaving behind us a crown of good moments to be remembered.

"Eternal Father, I thank you for your great mercy and your generosity, because instead of treating me as my deserts deserve, you offer me the purification through your Son, my Lord." Amen

Dia de Santos

Mt 5, 1-12

En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús vio a la muchedumbre, subió al monte y se sentó. Entonces se le acercaron sus discípulos. Enseguida comenzó a enseñarles, hablándoles así:

“Dichosos los pobres de espíritu,
porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos.
Dichosos los que lloran,
porque serán consolados.
Dichosos los sufridos,
porque heredarán la tierra.
Dichosos los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia,
porque serán saciados.
Dichosos los misericordiosos,
porque obtendrán misericordia.
Dichosos los limpios de corazón,
porque verán a Dios.
Dichosos los que trabajan por la paz,
porque se les llamará hijos de Dios.
Dichosos los perseguidos por causa de la justicia,
porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos.

Dichosos serán ustedes, cuando los injurien, los persigan y digan cosas falsas de ustedes por causa mía. Alégrense y salten de contento, porque su premio será grande en los cielos”.

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven."

Meditacion:

Hoy celebramos fiesta de todos los Santos. Lo hacemos, impulsados por el hecho de que todos estamos llamados a la santidad.

Y visto asi, a la distancia, algunos santos nos parecen imposibles de imitar. Sin embargo, hoy tenemos Santos entre nosotros que son bastante actuales... Hace solo unos dias el Papa santifico a San Oscar Romero, Obispo de El Salvador que murio en 1980.. eso es bastante actual. La Madre Teresa de Calcuta, tambien es alguien absolutamente contemporanea que vivio y conocio nuestro mundo.

Pero cuando hablamos de Santos nos parece que debemos ser martires o llegar a un punto de donacion de uno mismo y de abandonar todo que nos seria imposible.

Ser Santo es algo que no ha cambiado desde el principio del tiempo y basicamente es elevarse sobre nuestra propia condicion humana, dejando de lado cada dia mas lo humano y mimetizandose mas con los principios del amor fraterno universal: Amas a Dios, amar a tu projimo... como dice la Divina Liturgia, esos son los dos mandamientos principales.

Las bienaventuranzas explican estos dos sencillos principios de una manera mas profunda.

Así, pues, la vida que describen las bienaventuranzas es nuestra herencia espiritual, y comenzamos a participar en ella cuando Cristo nos hace suyos y nosotros seguimos su ejemplo. Ahora somos hijos del Padre, y compartimos estas bendiciones. Por eso, alabemos la gloria de Dios que vemos en la vida de los santos, y pidamos que esa gloria brille también en nosotros por la presencia de su Espíritu.

“Amado Jesús, te doy infinitas gracias por aceptarme y adoptarme como hijo de Dios.” Amen

Today we celebrate the Feast of All Saints. We do so, driven by the fact that we are all called to holiness.

And seen thus, in the distance, some saints seem impossible to imitate us. However, today we have Saints among us who are quite current ... Just a few days ago the Pope sanctified San Oscar Romero, Bishop of El Salvador who died in 1980 .. that is quite current. Mother Teresa of Calcutta is also someone absolutely contemporary who lived and knew our world.

But when we talk about Santos we think that we should be martyrs or reach a point of self-donation and abandon everything that would be impossible.

Being Holy is something that has not changed since the beginning of time and basically is rising above our own human condition, leaving aside every day but the human and mimicking more with the principles of universal brotherly love: Love God, love your neighbor ... as the Divine Liturgy says, those are the two main commandments.

The Beatitudes explain these two simple principles in a deeper way.

Thus, the life described by the Beatitudes is our spiritual heritage, and we begin to participate in it when Christ makes us his own and we follow his example. Now we are children of the Father, and we share these blessings. Therefore, let us praise the glory of God that we see in the lives of the saints, and ask that this glory shine in us also through the presence of his Spirit.

"Beloved Jesus, I give you infinite graces for accepting and adopting me as a child of God." Amen
