Familia

Mt 12, 46-50

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 12:46-50

While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you.”
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
“Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Meditacion:
Amen

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every human being has a deep desire to belong to something. We want to be part of a loving family, we want our peers to respect and accept us; we want them to listen to us and understand us; we want you to love us. If you can identify with these longings, what you are basically saying is: "I want to belong to God and his family."
In today's Gospel, the Lord Jesus says that everyone who does the will of his Father is his brother, sister, or mother; that is, everyone who listens to him and makes an effort to follow him (Matthew 17, 5). Of course Jesus loved and respected his mother very much, and of course he would never despise her. What this means is that what defines who belongs to your family is something much more powerful than inbreeding.
What did the Lord see when he looked at his friends and followers? Surely he knew it was an immature and uneven group: he knew that they understood little of what he taught them. Again and again we read that "they did not understand any of this, nor did they know what he was talking about, because they were things that they could not understand" (Luke 18, 34). It is true that they genuinely desired to do the will of their Father; if not, why would they give up so many things to become his disciples?
What would Jesus be thinking when he observed the gathered people. Father, I love you so much. I know that they are very confused and that they are prone to fail, but I also see that they deeply long to know you. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful family of faith. He saw that they were his brothers, and they certainly were.
The Lord raised this group of disciples to the height of their own mother; meditate on this truth for a moment; then he believes that this is what he thinks of you, because you find yourself in exactly the same situation: for him you are his brother, sister or mother. You want to please him, you want to follow him, you want to be more and more like him, right? Of course you are going to stumble along the way, but you can be sure of this: the Lord Jesus loves you just as you are right now and gives you grace so that you can fulfill the will of God.
"Dear Jesus, thank you for allowing me to be part of your eternal family." Amen

Milagros

Mt 12, 38-42

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 12:38-42

Some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,
“Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”
He said to them in reply,
“An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign,
but no sign will be given it
except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights,
so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth
three days and three nights.
At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah;
and there is something greater than Jonah here.
At the judgment the queen of the south will arise with this generation
and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and there is something greater than Solomon here.”

========================================================

Meditacion:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The lawyers and Pharisees who appear in today's Gospel have invented a phrase that resists fashions: Master, we want to see a miracle of yours. We first recognize that God has created this world as it is, with its laws, its holes, its uncertainty. Then we ask your Son to solve his paradoxes based on spectacular facts.
What the Pharisees ask Jesus is exactly what the devil asks of him in the story of the temptations: to be a spectacular, dazzling messiah, to do everything that is liked by the millions of "fans" who await tangible demonstrations of his power .
This temptation is from Jesus and all his followers. The answer is puzzling: (This generation) will be given no other sign than that of the prophet Jonah. The "sign" is a Messiah hidden for three days in the bosom of the earth / whale. The sign is, once again, the mystery of Easter: allowing oneself to be “defeated” by death in order to be exploded from within.
Also striking is the insistence that there is one that is more. Jesus is more than Jonah (prophet) and is more than Solomon (king). This is more indicative of its definitive nature. In him all prophecy is fulfilled and all reign is realized. We don't have to wait for anyone else.
"Lord help me to understand the simplicity of the miracle of conversion and resurrection" Amen

Se retiro

Mt 12, 14-21
Miren a mi siervo, a quien sostengo;
a mi elegido, en quien tengo mis complacencias.
En él he puesto mi Espíritu,
hasta que haga triunfar la justicia sobre la tierra;

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 12:14-21

The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus
to put him to death.
When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place.
Many people followed him, and he cured them all,
but he warned them not to make him known.
This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet:
Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
my beloved in whom I delight;
I shall place my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
He will not contend or cry out,
nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
A bruised reed he will not break,
a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory.

And in his name the Gentiles will hope.

====================================================

Meditacion:
“Señor, enséñame a imitar tu misericordia y amor.” Amen

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus was exhausted from traveling, preaching, and performing miracles. He had just healed a man on Saturday, and found that, despite his growing popularity, some Pharisees were conspiring to kill him. What would you do in the same situation?
Matthew says that the Lord "withdrew" instead of engaging in more controversy (Matthew 12:15). It was not the first time that he avoided the conflict, but it should be remembered that Jesus Christ did not avoid facing his critics, and even did so very directly. In fact, sometimes he himself caused controversy with his teaching and his signs. So how did you decide to face them or fold?
We can assume that Jesus based his decision on his central mission: to do the will of his heavenly Father. So he probably decided on the perspective that best allowed him to fulfill that will. He knew that it was not yet time for the sacrifice, so he quietly withdrew from the scene. He could have stayed to debate with his enemies, he could have disarmed them with his own censures against them. He did not break the "cracked reed" of the disoriented Pharisees or quench the "smoking wick" of the excited but confused crowd (Matthew 12:20).
Often, what we want is to defend ourselves immediately, to reject those who oppose us and it is not difficult for us to accuse them or bring their errors to light to try to disarm their arguments; but this way we bite the hook when we are in a discussion, we forget our mission to love even our enemies and we react with judgment or condemnation.
If you find you are agitated, stop and discern! What do you want? Or to be more precise, what does God want in this situation? If you think it is better to abstain, then withdraw just as Jesus did. If you think it is appropriate to continue the conversation, ask the Spirit for understanding and compassion. Try to say words that bring peace and not hostility, words that build and not discourage.
The Lord always maintained an attitude of love, whether he retired or faced. And with God's help, you can too.
"Lord, teach me to imitate your mercy and love." Amen

No permitido

Mt 12, 1-8

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 12:1-8

Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath.
His disciples were hungry
and began to pick the heads of grain and eat them.
When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him,
“See, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath.”
He said to the them, “Have you not read what David did
when he and his companions were hungry,
how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering,
which neither he nor his companions
but only the priests could lawfully eat?
Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath
the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath
and are innocent?
I say to you, something greater than the temple is here.
If you knew what this meant, I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
you would not have condemned these innocent men.
For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.”

========================================================

Meditacion:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The evangelist Matthew tells us in this passage today one of the many controversies between Jesus and the Pharisees regarding the observance of the Sabbath precept. The Mosaic law prescribed that no work shall be done on the Sabbath, even if it was particularly urgent as the work of the field at the time of sowing and harvesting. This ancient institution of Sabbath as a Sabbath day dedicated to God, who "rested on the seventh day from all his work" (Gn 2,2), had become very important during the exile in Babylon and in the following period, until it became an iron law in Judaism until the time of Jesus.
Jesus' statement: "The Son of man is lord of the Sabbath" (v. 8) has a striking scope. He claims first of all that He has a higher authority than Moses, based on a special relationship with God to whom the Sabbath is dedicated. He and He alone could establish what is lawful or not. Secondly, this affirmation reveals to us the love of the Father. Jesus relocates the human being to the center of true worship, paying honor to God cannot be separated from the attention and care of the human being that God has created and loves. Therefore, the observance of laws and regulations cannot be absolutized. The means to do the will of God cannot become the end, to feel self-justified and with a clear conscience. The God of mercy he claims is the practice of mercy and not sacrifices.

Vengan a mi todos los fatigados

Mt 11, 28-30

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 11:28-30

Jesus said:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

========================================================

Meditacion:
“Amado Jesús, quiero conocer tu bondad y tu humildad mientras camino a tu lado.” Amen

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the people who listened to the Lord at that time, the image of the yoke was very well known, but for us, it may not be so easy to relate it to something. The yoke is made for two oxen, which form a yoke. When oxen are young, they are taught to pull together while attached to the yoke. If one ox wants to go in one direction and the other in a different one, they both experience the pain of pulling against the yoke, and the more effort they make, the worse the pain.
So, in a sense, we can say that the yoke hurts the oxen and increases the load; But when the two go in the same direction, the yoke actually makes their job easier. Generally when one ox decides to move in one direction, the other follows.
This helps us understand what the Lord said that accepting his yoke eases our burden, and this is how the yoke should work. It teaches us to let the Lord set the course, and to follow the One who has joined us in a covenant of love. We also discover what happens when we try to follow our own path, because striving to live against God's guidance causes pain, as Paul understood in Acts 26, 14 when the Lord told him that by "kicking against the stinger" (it is that is to say, kicking the punch with which the oxen were stimulated), only hurt itself; instead when he followed Jesus Christ, he had more peace and was more fruitful.
Human beings were created to learn by trying and making mistakes, sometimes painful. If this seems inflexible, we can trust that the Lord is extremely patient, for he never stops loving and guiding us and knows that we will be more docile if we experience the wonderful effects of following his guidance. Christ trusts that we will learn.
Yes, the Lord's yoke is soft, because He who guides us walks beside us under the yoke, sharing all our burdens and inviting us to rest in it. All he asks is that we follow his guidance.
"Dear Jesus, I want to know your goodness and your humility as I walk by your side." Amen

Vida sencilla

Mt 11, 25-27

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

========================================================

Meditacion:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In today's Gospel, Jesus thanks the Father for the surprising way of acting, so different from our human logic, that it makes him reveal to simple people the secrets of the Kingdom. The poor and simple people, those who had to fight hunger and its diseases were the ones who knew how to better understand Jesus' message. How difficult it is for us to accept this fundamental criterion of the Gospel that is in the small, in the poor, in the simple where the God of Jesus is revealed. In those who, having nothing, are more open to accept the Lord's message. The wise and knowledgeable in the time of Jesus were people who had everything assured, many came to believe that they did not need God. The surprising thing about Jesus' message is that it changes that idea, putting the little ones at the center.
Adherence to the person of Jesus and his message should be followed by his followers [today, these same vital attitudes of his Master who is not carried away by appearances, who looks at the heart. Making this "Magnificat of Jesus" our own should help us to live with that spirit that simple people have of openness, naturalness, sincerity, and trust in the Lord. And that our hearts be able to recognize in the poorest and humblest the best that the Church has as the People of God, because they are that "theological place" where God continues to reveal himself to us today. Do I allow myself to be surprised, like Jesus, by God's always new way of acting?
"Lord change my life to live a simple and austere life" Amen

Quejas

Mt 11, 20-24

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GospelMT 11:20-24

Jesus began to reproach the towns
where most of his mighty deeds had been done,
since they had not repented.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum:
Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the nether world.
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom,
it would have remained until this day.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

========================================================

Meditacion:

The text of the Gospel presents three denunciations, of a prophetic cut, made by Jesus to some cities in Galilee: Corazaín, Betsaida, Cafarnaún. These were Jesus' first operational spaces, which they saw firsthand and experienced the healing activity of the first Kingdom announcement (vv. 21.23). However, they are indicated as a prototype of a "capricious generation" who, like children in a plaza, are unable to interpret events since they are on another wave, as represented in the parable preceding the text today (Mt 11, 16 -19). Jesus reproaches them for the inability to recognize in the miracles that he has performed the signs of his deepest identity as the Son of God.
It hurts Jesus to see the closure of the human heart and that he is not able to recognize the liberating action of God. Rather than interpreting these "complaints" in this passage from Matthew as threats, they are rather a warning, a call to conversion. Which also continues to resonate for us today. How many "complaints" would Jesus have to give us regarding our inability to see his interventions in our daily lives. This text of the Gospel is an invitation to know how to discern how God is present in our lives, perhaps through the most unexpected ways. Hence, the change of mentality (conversion) that Jesus asks us to be more aware and grateful for the saving action of God in our lives.
"Lord Jesus help me to be more aware of your presence in my life and in that of my family" Amen
