Enfermos & pecadores

Evangelio

Lc 5, 27-32

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post.
He said to him, “Follow me.”
And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.
Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house,
and a large crowd of tax collectors
and others were at table with them.
The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying,
“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”

Meditacion:

¡Feliz jornada!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday is a more relaxed day, professionally speaking. It is a good time to rest and spend more time to pray more calmly and calmly, to savor God on a park bench, contemplating nature, finding the silence and stillness that soothes our soul. The heart needs to listen to God. When we are able to listen peacefully and confidently, our interior can hear the voice of God calling insistently and gently at our door, like the voice that today calls Levi, sitting at the tax counter.

He got up and followed him. Only an available heart is capable of rising. Getting up implies leaving everything you are doing, giving priority to whoever calls you, resigning. You cannot sit at the tax desk and follow Jesus at the same time. Follow-up implies change of address. This is the problem that, at times, prevents us from advancing in the life of faith: we are afraid to get up and abandon our securities. The prophet Isaiah explains it very well in the first reading: ... when you banish oppression, threatening gesture and slander, when you break your bread with the hungry and satisfy the stomach of the destitute, your light will shine in the darkness, your darkness It will become noon.

When we are able to move forward in following Jesus because we overcome the immobility that stagnates us, our heart rejoices, it celebrates. Jesus' banquet with Levi expresses the joy of the encounter. Jesus is eager to sit at our table. It is necessary to be very attentive to listen to his calls and to be vitally willing to get up and leave what we have in hand to open the door to our Lord, the one who comes to bring much peace and joy to our lives. May this Saturday be an auspicious day for it, and may the Virgin Mary, whom every Saturday remembers the liturgy in a special way, intercede for us so that we can set out on our way. Happy journey!

Ayuno

Evangelio

Mt 9, 14-15

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said,
“Why do we and the Pharisees fast much,
but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.”

======================================================

Meditacion:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Fast" is the star word in today's liturgy of the Word. One of the classic concepts of Lent along with prayer and almsgiving. But how to understand fasting today? It is not an incomprehensible concept in our culture. Fasting to put on a diet, to carry out a weight loss diet for aesthetic, health or sports reasons, is a practice that many people do.

In the religious aspect, fasting, not only from food, but from everything that distances me from God, practices or vices that enslave me such as addictive uses of social networks, series, games, etc., is a type of fast that We also understand why it does us good spiritually, since it leads us to silence and Lent invites us to do so. But the Word of God invites us to seek a deeper meaning to fasting: why fast? What is its purpose?

The prophet Isaiah criticizes fasting as meaningless: Why fast if you ignore it? On the fast day you look for your interest. Is that the fast that the Lord wishes for the day when man mortifies himself? Do you call that fasting, a day pleasing to the Lord? And it is that the religious fast that is born of pride, of spiritual lust, that is to say, of vainglory, of pure perfection, of spiritual narcissism, is the fast that the prophet criticizes and against which the Word of God warns us. Every religious fast cannot be deprived of a fundamental element: it has to produce benefits for others, it has to have positive consequences for others, especially those most in need; not be a fast of whose fruits only I benefit. This is how today's first reading explains it very well: The fast I want is this: to open unjust prisons, to pop the bolts of the stocks, to set the oppressed free, to break all the stocks, to break your bread with the hungry, to host the poor homeless, to dress the one you see naked and not to close yourself to your own flesh.

Therefore, today in prayer we are invited to think about the fast that God wants. On the one hand, fasting from everything that makes you freer, eliminates noise and therefore predisposes you to listen to God. Without forgetting the fundamental element that God wants in fasting: that it benefits others. Your fast has to make life more pleasant, more liberating, it has to be light for others.

Ask the Lord for light in your prayer today to answer this question: what is the fast that you want for my Lord in this season of Lent?

Carga tu cruz

Evangelio

Lc 9, 22-25

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Then he said to all,
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”

=======================================================

Meditacion:

¿Cómo vas a responder?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you want this Lenten season to be fruitful? Try to see it as a journey that you are taking with the disciples as Jesus prepares for his passion, death and resurrection. In these days you will hear the Lord preach and tell parables; you will see him heal and feed those in need. How are you going to respond? Every day you will have new opportunities to make a decision.

Following the Lord Jesus implies deciding, as today's readings say. Moses delivered this farewell speech to the Israelites, and the central idea of it is that if they want to receive the life that comes from God, they must decide to follow and obey him (Deuteronomy 30, 15-20). Jesus predicted his passion and then gave the disciples a list of things they should decide to do: deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow him (Luke 9:23). Even the psalm describes the holy people who follow the Lord, they do not follow the advice of the wicked; they meditate and delight in the law of God; and as a result, they are like a well planted and fruitful tree.

As with the Israelites, it is the same with us: following God gives us life. Regardless of your age, social status or state of life, spend a little more time in prayer or reading the Word, attend the Stations of the Cross in your parish, offer to the poor, either your time talking with the indigent or preparing meals in a shelter, washing the dishes in your house or performing a service for your family with a smile.

And while it seems like a spiritual to-do list, when you spend more time praying, you'll find that joy sprouts in your heart, even in the midst of difficulty. By reaching out to those in need, you will better understand Jesus' love for the poor. By deciding to serve your family even when you feel bothered, you can discover a new sense of peace. Every decision to follow Jesus feeds your soul like the water that nourishes the tree (Psalm 1, 3).

So rest in God's grace and accept his call. As you walk with Jesus during Lent, you will begin to become more like him in your thoughts, words, and actions. That is what his life produces in you!

"Lord Jesus, I beg you to help me walk by your side today and always."

Cuaresma

Evangelio

Mt 6, 1-6. 16-18

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms,
do not blow a trumpet before you,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets
to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you,
they have received their reward.
But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

“When you pray,
do not be like the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you,
they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room,
close the door, and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

“When you fast,
do not look gloomy like the hypocrites.
They neglect their appearance,
so that they may appear to others to be fasting.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast,
anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to be fasting,
except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”

Meditacion:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have 40 days. Today Lent begins. We are invited to live a precious time of personal - community renewal and growth. One more year we started an itinerary, a training, a process that wants to lead us to the goal of Easter. And particularly, in this year characterized by the pandemic, Pope Francis invites us to live it by intensely renewing the three theological virtues, that is, the habits that God instills in the intelligence and the will of the person to order their actions to God. himself: faith, hope and charity.

I highlight two paragraphs from the Pope's message for Lent this year:

- “In this season of Lent, welcoming and living the Truth that was manifested in Christ means first of all letting ourselves be reached by the Word of God, which the Church transmits to us from generation to generation. This Truth is not a construction of the intellect, intended for a few chosen, superior or illustrious minds, but rather a message that we receive and can understand thanks to the intelligence of the heart, open to the greatness of God who loves us before we ourselves let us be aware of it ”.

- “Living a Lent of charity means taking care of those who are in conditions of suffering, abandonment or anguish due to the Covid pandemic. In such an uncertain context about the future, let us remember the word that God addresses to his Servant: "Do not fear, I have redeemed you" (Is 43,1), let us offer with our

charity a word of trust, so that the other feels that God loves him as a son. "

Convert to me with all your heart, we hear in the prophecy of Joel (1st reading). Converting means turning our gaze to God, seeking him and allowing ourselves to be found by him.

Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. The gospel reminds us today that when we give alms, fast or pray, it is with authenticity, not to comply or why they will say or to look good to others. Therefore, today is a good day to ask myself in my personal prayer or when the ashes are imposed on my head: Lord, what fast do I need? What are the obesities that make me heavy and clumsy in the light of the Spirit? What do I have to empty myself of so that you can enter more into me? What alms can I give? What part of me do I not just give to others? In what aspects of myself can I be more generous and oblative? What prayer can I make? How can I become more intimate with you in the secret of my room?

All these Lenten questions and practices invite us to be more merciful, to grow in love, to be closer to God in order to experience his Passover in forty days, his passing through our lives. Cheer up! It is a beautiful adventure that is worth living. Let God surprise you in this time of search and preparation. With all my heart, Happy Lent!

Panes & Espiritu

Evangelio

Mc 8, 14-21

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The disciples had forgotten to bring bread,
and they had only one loaf with them in the boat.
Jesus enjoined them, “Watch out,
guard against the leaven of the Pharisees
and the leaven of Herod.”
They concluded among themselves that
it was because they had no bread.
When he became aware of this he said to them,
“Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread?
Do you not yet understand or comprehend?
Are your hearts hardened?
Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear?
And do you not remember,
when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand,
how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?”
They answered him, “Twelve.”
“When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand,
how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?”
They answered him, “Seven.”
He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

Meditacion:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Word of God invites us today, the eve of Lent, to be careful with evil in all its dimensions: personal, social, structural, ... Both the book of Genesis and the Gospel, lament and warn us of this contrary reality to God's plan. We read in the first reading: “When the Lord saw that the wickedness of man grew on the earth, and that his whole way of thinking was always wicked, he repented of having created man on earth, and it weighed him heart". Harsh words that invite us to reflect. In what way am I involved with my action and omission to generate and create a bad environment, an atmosphere of evil, and sin? God loves his creation and his creatures and weighs on him when it does not advance according to his established plan, when through the use of freedom, we collaborate with the plan of our creator or destroy it.

Jesus warns us of the badly camouflaged that also grows and spreads dangerously, and he does so through the example of yeast, the cooking ingredient that makes dough ferment; An example that he has used positively before, but not this time: "Be careful with the yeast of the Pharisees and with that of Herod." Today we would have to replace the Pharisees and Herod with other characters, currents of thought, post-truths that ferment and make evil grow. What do you think they are? Which ones do you see as destructive? Which ones undermine your faith and hope?

Jesus reminds his disciples and us today that he is the Bread of Life, the food that helps us fight evil and generate good and goodness. In the Eucharist we receive it. You are what you eat, body of Christ. Bread that strengthens us and makes us aware of the identity to which we are called to be: that we all be one. And in that unity we must take care of ourselves and our common home, the creation of which God has made us guarantors, caretakers. It seems like a very demanding aspiration, because sometimes we are not even capable of taking care of ourselves, but that is what we aspire to and for this we need the Bread that Jesus is for us, food, not other breads that fill us but do not nourish us, when not intoxicating us.

Today's Gospel sequence ends with a question that Jesus directs us: “Have you not just understood? It is a good day to pray with this question. Lord enlighten our understanding so that we can understand, assimilate and bring to life that word of life that costs us and to rid ourselves of the toxic yeasts that contaminate our hearts.

Pecado

Evangelio

Mc 8, 11-13

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus,
seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.
He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said,
“Why does this generation seek a sign?
Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
Then he left them, got into the boat again,
and went off to the other shore.

Meditacion:

With today's gospel a great promise begins. Cain and Abel had prepared a sacrifice to the Lord because they knew that he created and provided for them, and since they knew that everything came from him they should make an offering to him. God saw that Cain's offering was not sincere and knew the temptation he was facing.

We also see that God makes a promise to Cain and offers him strength to turn away from anger and jealousy. The Lord was ready to help him “master” the sin that was tempting him. (Genesis 4, 7).

That's another sign that God had not abandoned his people after Adam and Eve sinned. In this passage we can see that God spoke directly to Cain, encouraging him and guiding him in the right direction. The Lord was not asking Cain to trust only his own strength; rather, he offered divine strength to help him.

God offers you the same divine force. Remember that he knows your heart, he knows those people that you strive to love. He also knows the anger that you harbor in your heart, yet he is speaking to you just as he did to Cain and promising his grace to dominate your own sin. The Lord invites you to confess your temptations so that you can change your heart and asks you to listen to him so that he can help you find the way to love.

Now imagine that you yourself are in that scene. God calls you by name just like he called Cain and you can hear him ask you a question similar to the one he did then: Why are you resentful? Why are you living in this temptation? As you think about how to answer, remember that God is waiting patiently for you to ask for his help. The Lord is offering you an exchange: your anger for divine strength, your jealousy for healing, and your resentment for a transformed heart.

God makes exactly these same offers when you are faced with any kind of temptation, he is always with you. The Lord knows your heart and he is always ready to offer you his grace to help you overcome all sin.

"Lord, I beg you to give me your strength to face all temptation."
